Very strange speed cameras on M55 near Blackpool?

They are number plate readers. So if your name's Murphy or Bin and its your lorry packed with fertilizer they will know you're coming.
Although I have no particular fondness for smilin' Tony, I'm not sure this is an apropriate topic of conversation for this board.....

Been driving to Blackpool every day and since at least Monday am there have been cameras attached to the first motorway bridge heading towards Blackpool on the M55.
They were still there this morning and I drove up to the bridge tonight and they are still there with a bloke sat in a police van. There is one camera for each lane and they have been there now for at least 36hrs.
They dont look like any speed camera I have ever seen before and why have they been there so long - manned by a bloke in a police van. There is even an outside toilet and generator.Plus the van is not easily visible from the motorway.
Can anyone throw light on the subject - because I have been through these at least twice while doing more than 71mph!

I was discussing this very thing with someone at work this morning. I'd whisked through at a not all together leasurely pace late at night over the weekend and seen them on the bridge at the last minute. There'd also been a marked V70 in the lay by just a little further down.
Anyway, my collegue was under the impression that these were not speed cameras, but traffic monitoring... monitors, in conjunction with all the activity in Blackpool for the conference, and the visitation at some point (if not already) of Bill Clinton.

Theres one on blackpool rd which is recording everybodys reg no heading towards blackpool incase theres any trouble, oh & its linked direct to DVLA computer for tax dodgers
