Picked Up a Hitch Hiker...
#1
Coming back from work with me mate today and we see a hitch hiker. I, as a rule never pick them up. However, mate says we should, so we did.
He gets in, and puts a fairly heavy bag in the back of the transit van we are in and we set off.
Seems ok so I casually ask what's in the bag. Answer - "mind your own f*cking business"
Couldn't believe he said this but ignored it...bit later on my mate asks him what's in the bag..."mind your own f*cking business"
Well thats it I'm fuming now. Stop the van tell him to get the F out, which he does and leaves the bag in the back of the van...unbelievable
Moral of the story ... don't pick hitch hikers up !

It's strange that I almost never see hitchhikers these days. Recently on a long motorway trip I drove through several services deliberately to find people hitching, and saw none.
In the early & mid 80s when I wanted to spend cash on beer & tabs, I used to hitch most weekends from London to Leeds and back. It was like clockwork -- Brent Cross tube, half a mile to the start of the M1, within 20 minutes I'd have a lift, usually in Leeds in 4 hours max. Same coming back on Sunday afternoon.
Strange how its changed.

I occasionally pick up hitch-hikers,depending on what they look like.Picked up one a few months ago going from Nottingham to Oxford.Turned out he lived on the Falls Road,Belfast....pretty decent guy actually.
Makes a boring journey a bit more interesting.
Its true that you dont see as many as you used to though

As an HGV driver, I reckon that one of the reasons you don't see that many now is that most haulage companies forbid their drivers to pick up hitchers on pain of dismissal.
Something to do with securing the load/wagon.
Obviously, if wagons aren't picking up, most journeys won't get completed.
I'd never pick up someone unless I was on my own, I know a couple of people who've had their seats slashed by folk in the back. Then there was that guy who stabbed taxi drivers with a stilletto, right through the back of their seats. Scary.

Paulr - that is really strange - I gave a guy from the Falls a lift last week. It wasn't in Oxford though... it was ... well... erm... on the Falls.
So what did you do with the bag Terzo?
