It's going to depend on how big, what you want in the way of windows, doors, interior, electrics, what it's made of, detached or part of house, heating(??), hardstanding, drainage, type of roof, what the roof is made of, and a few others.
If you're serious, get some plans drawn (look in your local paper for someone advertising doing them for cheap) then start getting estimates. They WILL vary enormously.
You can save money by doing some of the work yourself, eg: clearing the site, digging footings, getting rid of rubbish etc.
Bear in mind that it will also depend on where you live, and even what time of year you want it done: builders are more likely to be in need of work during the winter.

Oh yes: and allow money for planning permission, building regs etc, and about 6 weeks to get both.

Just cost me Just short of £3k. Its 4m wide by 7.5 long. Concrete block walls, rendered, 3 windows, back stable door, electric roller door 7ft x 8 1/2ft(£800), fully concreted, full electric, pitched roof, total height at pitch 3.95m, eaves 3m. Mock slate roof. Concrete bay 5m by 4.5m in front of garage (done this morning by hand).
Got a quote of over £12k to do this excluding door which they wanted £2000 for
Done it myself on weekends/evenings and with the help of friends and family.. Had a great laugh doing it, taught myself to brickie by doing it.
Big saving, but then i am a Yorkshire man

We are just about to have a big oversized double garage plus a study and loo built on our house we have had a few builders round but we had one from the offset it's going to cost about 16k for the works the door is a insulated electric roller door which was £1100 if you need the name of then company thats supplying it Lakesid Security doors and it all fits into a 300mm x 300mm box and don't get me on the subject of planning permission as we had one hell of a battle, not only that we had a lot of trouble from the ar*hole that lives over the back of us about us blocking his access to his property not to mention the number of times the **** and his freinds have blocked our access Anyawy we won they lost wahoooooo.

What really p*ssed me off here was that my bro. in law had a double garage converted to a snooker room, full insulation, double walls, ceiling, heating, 2 uPVC windows, decoration , electrics, etc, then another double garage built, electrics, lighting, external door, window, painted out, etc for £11000.
I ask the same builder to quote me for a double garage, a little bit bigger, no windows, no electrics, no lighting, just a shell with roof and door, and the b*st*rd quotes me £18000!!!! FEK!!!!!
Edited to say that the Builder wasn't called "Senior-Cummins":
