Try a gameboy advance, got a couple myself. Would recommend Advance Wars (turn based strategy war game thingy)....thats really addictive!

Only problem is the screen, its ok in perfect light, but otherwise its either too dark, or too reflective.

If ur one of those rich type scooby owners, u can get a modified one with a light behind the screen, think they were a fair bit extra, cant remember the exact price, maybe up to 130???

Email me if ya want me to find where I saw them....

umm, just in case its not in my profile, my email is chimple@hotmail.com

Get an old Sega GameGear - smart colour screen, good games, pick one up with charger, mains adaptor, AND 20 games for about £30!!!

You KNOW it makes sense!! what are you waiting for?

Apparently Nintendo are releasing a new GBA, with built in back light (like the third party one you have to solder in) around Xmas time...

I've got the current GBA and the quality of games on it is excellent...

I had the Atari Lynx before, didn't rate it much... also had the NeoGeo handheld - good system, crap s/w base.

All IMHO of course

GBA games are good but the OEM screen is appauling. So bad that I could not even use it. Had to sit under a direct light with may face nearly pressed against the screen to even be able to play anything !

IMO Nintendo fcuked up by going for improved battery life and reduced weight over good display and backlight.

Question

DJ Dunk - been to spec-savers recently?

Seriously though, agreed, they should have put the back light in to start with and just had an on/off switch for it.. would make more sense. It is a bugger to play on at times, if the lighting in the room isn't right.

I have perfect vision . . . . with my contacts in

Was going to go for the Afterburner backlight kit, but couldn't be ar$ed in the end. Shame, because the games are great for a handheld. Tony Hawks was fantastic

Game Gear, simple as that.

Nearly bought a GBA then realised I was all nostalgic and buying it for old games I used to enjoy, so dug out my game gear.

Dead cheap on Ebay, or if you want to spend real money I have a new one, still boxed, never used.

TV tuner, backlit screen, great games, what more could you want?

(Wish someone would do a handheld to tempt me - about time Sony did a PS1 handheld\cd walkman methinks)

Keep an eye out for the xx-in-one cartridges. Just for conveniance even tho I have doubled up on some games, I have a 52in1 cart with most classics.

(oh, most overquote, with "unlimited lives" etc versions of games alongside, so the number of original games is about two thirds)
