Anyone into Manga or Anime stuff?

I have a few anime movies, and have borrowed plenty from a friend who has a large collection.
‘Ghost in the Shell’ is good, as is ‘Patlabor’. I agree with Damaja about ‘Laputa: Castle in the Sky’. The same studio that did Laputa has done other good films like ‘Princess Mononoke’ and ‘Totoro’. Princess Mononoke is available dubbed in the UK. Totoro is mainly a children’s film and I have never seen it on sale in this country.
My favourite anime is ‘Wings of Honneamise’.
Whatever you end up watching, enjoy.
James
Edited to add: Having had more time to think... I would strongly reccommend 'Porco Rosso', directed by Miyazaki who also did Laputa and the Lupin III series. I have enjoyed all of his films that I have seen.

HMV on Oxford street has a great selection of Jap Anime.
If you liked "Akira", try "The Ghost in the Shell".
Couple of my favourites are Burnup-W, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Gundam Wing. Occasionally they show these at 2am on sci-fi channel.

Akira seems to be a theme here. I *did* have the tin box collectors edition that came out last year, though I was narked with it, mainly as I prefered the old english narative track, had got used to the voice talents after so many viewings that the new one did not sound right, plus they had lost at least one of my fave lines. which is where they are powering up the lasergun from a bike, which then sets fire, Kaneda then shouts "hey man, you're bikes still burnin!" (guess you had to be there)
I've seen fist of the north star, plus some other 18 rated manga stuff, plus a bit of legend of the overfiend, just to see what the fuss was all about.
Manga does kinda appeal, but I'm not heavily into it.
Oh, and I do have volume 1 of the Akira book. rather cool.

Legend of the overfiend is one hell of a funny movie
The best one I ever saw was Laputa city in the sky (I think) it was aimed at a younger audience but it had a great storyline and the animation was simply amazing.

Got the very first issue of Manga mania with the first installment of Akira in mint condition. Anyone want it?
astraboy.
P.S. also got the last issue as well. the manga version is 10 times better than the film.

yup, another fan here, got racks of the stuff.
Fave anime: Ghost in the shell
Fave manga: Dirty pair
I have loads of copies of good ol manga mania, and AnimeUK as well, shame they dried up in the UK.
Anime wise, really depends what you are into. For the vampire stuff then as mentioned Vampire Hunter D is a corker. I'm more into general Sci-Fi, so Armitage, Kishin Heiden <sp?>, Patlabor, Gunbuster are all cool.
Oh, and as a car nut, you should check out "Riding Bean", cheesy but enjoyable.
Anime is just a medium, there are so many genre's, give us your fave (live action) films and I'm sure we can come up with a list of "must see" titles.
