Been thinking of buying one.
Which are the most decent ones. I know the new Sony is meant to be the dog's danglies but at 1200 spondoolics it's a bit of an investment. Is it worth it or are there good corders out there reasonably priced.
Oh I want to make DVD's out of mine (No **** cracks )

Went through this myself recently.
Looked at the Sony IP7 (MicroDV jobby) but it's too much of a compromise, and is hardly smaller than the other mini DVCams on the market. Similarly, the JVC GR-DV7 is not small enough to warrant the compromises in compatibility, etc.
In the end I bought a Sony DCR-PC101E. It's superb - well chuffed with it. Top quality video, long battery life (> 2 hours), small, light, excellent touch-screen menus on the LCD display, and it even has night-vision and produces respectable stills. Oh, and all the important connectivity - DV IN/OUT (via both firewire and USB) as well as S-Video out etc.
RRP is £1299 (that's Dixon's price) but I bought mine from Cameras Direct where they've got PAL UK cameras for £883 including VAT!!! Bargain!

I bought a Canon DV450i(cica £800.00, a couple of months back, after sending back a JVC tape chewing equivalent!!!
It came with a firewire card and software for PC editing, although you do need a decent PC to render the finished production (Big hard-drive too!!)
have a look for yourself... http://uk.shopsmart.com/Electronics/Editorial/1174,1.html
I have had no problems with the Canon and the quality is spot on.
Also the JVC had a noisy motor, which could be heard on during playback.
I hope this helps... Sony equivalent was out of my price range!!!
