i now have 2 rats! Ratty and Tinkerbell.

they are only 5wks old from a rat breeder so friendly enough. i was just wondering if at such a young age and in a new home they should spend so much time hiding. They seem to spend all day in a corner of the cage under a shelf where its nice a dark- when i approach the cage they scurry back to the corner? is this something they will get used to after a few days and get braver or do i have ***** rats?

Got friends who have some. IIRC they took a wee while to settle down, although one is much more "out-going" than the other.
They absolutely love booze and ****, one of them got my *** packet out of my jacket and shredded the lot - they love supping Becks out of the palm of your hand too.
We're gonna get some after we move in a fortnight.

Mate keep them apart for christ sakes, I started with two, they breeded then ten , then twenty etc etc etc. Bloody nightmare, had to find loving homes for them all.

The parents also eat their young.

Could have called it Turbo

But yeah, they'll probably take a week or 2 to settle down in their new environment. Soon, their curiosity will take over from their fear.

Thumbs up

My last hamster was called Turbo.

Tiggs - they will have to get used to you and their new surroundings and stuff.

Ratty is from Wind in the Willows, isn't it?

They will be a bit shy for the next couple of weeks, just keep playing with them for 10 mins at a time and they'll come out of their shell. They are very young after all!

What colours are they?

As for names, my two are Mirri & Bel Bel but my sisters's pair are Nibbles and Ralphie.

As I said in the previous post, sign up here: RatPalace and you will see articles on all aspects of rats and there are loads of people to give you adice on them. I am GarnetFox there too.
