I recently dropped my watch (it was a fossil, someone gave it to me so i don't suppose it cost that much) about two feet onto a stone floor and the glass cracked. I now want to get a new watch: something reliable and not too flash, but not casio either. i was thinking either Tag or Omega - are these terrible cliches? Plus I want to be able to drop it and the thing not fall apart.
Cheers,
Charlie.

I have accidentally hit my TAG with a 7lb lump hammer before and nothing happened to hit, my wrist swelled though. Done same to my casio, now dead.
Top tip, dont stand near me when i have my lump hammer in my hand.

You could always buy 20 50 quid watches and so have lots spare if you dropped them.
To be honest, never saw the point in spending a 1000 quid on a watch. Not saying that its wrong to spend a grand on a watch, but its not something I would do.

i bought a £300 tag about 10 years ago.
after about 2 yrs the battery went, so it went back to the jewellers-
6mnts later no watch, it had been "lost" in transit to switzerland or whereever they send them.
the jeweler offered to give me a replacement of the watch, however the model i had been discontinued. the nearest was the next model up-retail £600, i nearley snatched his hand off
not bad eh?
if i had the dosh i would get the seamaster, but i havent. the next watch will probably be a seiko kinetic, nice watch@reasonable money.

One of the best watches to get is the IWC (international watch company). As good a quality watch as a Rolex without the "overthetop" looks, still quite pricey though.
You didn't suggest a price you wanted to spend, I would personally go for the Omega rather than the Tag because everyone's got a Tag.

I think the omega seamaster is advertised in the back of top gear magazine at about £1200 IIRC and interest free over 12 months.
Just checked magazine, page 205, Alexanders Jewellers advertising Omega Speedmaster for £1445 with depost of £149 and then 12 payments of £108.
Not bad, may consider it myself and have the now common £1000 TAG for weekends/bashing with hammer.

I have a Seiko Kinetic Arctura. Nice looking watch but it has a half plastic strap (even though it costs £399 retail) and doesnt remember the correct time if you run out of charge.
Thing that stops me buying a really expensive watch (£700+) is that Ive only had this about a year and managed to scratch the metal strap and the face housing.
