Okay, here's a question for all Scoobynetters who travel across Europe on a regular basis.
I need to go from Calais to Koblenz soon and need to know the best route....(fastest, not the most enjoyable or scenic).
The AA and Autoroute Express want to send me down the E40, but I'm not convinced about the traffic around Brussels.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks, Nick.

I have never found the Brussles ring road that bad.
I guess it depends on the time.
You know you are only will only be 40K's from the Nurburgring??

When we go to the Ring, we always use E40 coz it is the fastest way. I mean, Belgium is great for cruising at over 100mph, so you can cross the country in about 2.5 hours if lucky!
Avoid the rush hours and lunchtime and you will be fine round Belgium. The last trip we did back from the Ring took us 3 3/4 hours and we did hit Brussels at around lunchtime.
Hope this helps!

The traffic around Brussels isn't that bad IMHO. We drove to Northern Italy last year and went that route without any hassle to avoid the French toll roads. We headed south into Luxembourg, Germany (saarbrucken) then to Austria. I wouldn't be put off with driving around Brussels (common sense tells you to avoid the usual rush hours times )

Thanks for all the replies....Good to know that the E40 keeps moving
I don't want to sit in traffic queues all day as I'm going to be on the road for at least eight hours....
Edited to say that I know how close I will be to the ring and if I get time I may have to pay it a little visit

It won't because I definitely won't have time during my trip to drive round it!
I just want to add it to my list of places that I've visited!
