I know I can get the last number that called by dialling 1471, but does anyone know how to find out the number that dialled three calls ago?

My telephone displays the last 9 numbers not answered, but we did answer this one and decided later that we wanted the number.
Does BT have this facility anywhere?

Caller Display is the only way to keep track of received calls.
You can buy the unit for about £10 and you pay a quartery "Select Service" charge. About £5 IIRC

We already pay BT for the caller display facility, so I guess a separate unit is called for.
With the number of times the mother-in-law calls there is little time to dial 1471 I'm afraid. I'm surprised anyone else can get through.

1471 doesn't alway work!!
A few years ago, I kept on getting nuisance calls. 1471 told me it was a certain number. I wrote the number down. Then when I pressed 1471 and allowed the phone to automatically ring back, I got the person who was making the nuisance call and it was not the number that 1471 had told me.
This was proved by ringing the number manually that 1471 had told me. Result I got a different person on the phone.
This happened a few times. Each time, I did 1471, the real number had been masked, however the 1471 callback took me back to the nuisance caller. The number which 1471 told me was to a totally innocent person. The person making the calls was trying to hide their phone number or trying to give the impression that someone else was phoning. Before they did that they were hiding their number from 1471.
I phoned BT up and they weren't very helpful, saying that it couldn't be done. BUT IT HAD BEEN DONE!!! I had proof, my 1471 number dial back was going to another number to the one the 1471 was telling me. I even asked them to monitor who I was calling when I pressed 1471 and to listen to the 1471 number that was been given out.
In the end I gave up on BT, I couldn't get it through to them. I've moved house and the calls have stopped so I am not taking it any further.
However if someone who knows anything about how 1471 can be masked then please let me know. I don't want to know how it is done, just that it can be done. I have seen that it can be done, but if someone call tell me, then it will put my mind at rest?

FBS,
it is just a guess, but i think that CLI consists of two parts - the actual number and a "presented number".
The theory was that at some point you could send "Fred Bloggs" as will as your number - so the recipient would know who you are.
The presented bit can also hold things like "International" or "Phone Box" to give you a clue even when the number is missing.
My guess is that 1471 reads the presented number, and the callback uses the actual one.
The nuisance caller may be one some network that allows the presented number to be set by the caller?
Er, maybe?
