Question

Any experts out there give some advice...

If someone is 6weeks pregnant and then loses it or has there period, ie. they were only 2weeks late with there period, may or may not have been pregnant.

Should they wait before trying again?

or will the cycle be a normal one etc?

I know at later stages when the pregnancy is lost that toxines or some kind are used to remove contents of the womb and it is suggested that people wait 3months before trying again, but wondering if this is still the case if it happens so early on.

Anyone help?

Please no funny comments as this is not some joke thread....

Cheers

Sometimes periods can be very erratic varying from as soon as every two weeks to up to 6 or 7 weeks!!!
This thing about periods being regular is a fantasy I reckon, mine have never been spot on 28 days.

If that is the case then I am sure that to continue on trying will be fine.

I am sure one of our helpful docs will come and give you some reassurance and sound advice.

Go ahead anyway. If they're pregnant already there's no reason to stop having sex, and if they aren't you may as well continue practising anyway.

Although she was suffering from a bit of stress last month so perhaps that could have effect..

Question

JGM,

Could she not just get checked out anyway, just in case?

Cool

JGM, it is amazing what can affect periods.

Things like anemia, stress, tiredness - lack of sleep, strenuous exercise, certain drugs, foods, the list is ednless

Might be worth trying something like Yoga to relax and take her mind off things, as worrying about trying to get pregnant might not be helping.

KimA,

Checked out for what...

She is not preg, but she doesn't know whether she was and I cannot see that this can be checked.

In hind sight she should have done a test once she had missed her period etc..

'Chel,

Yes I think you are right that lots of things can effect it..

I cannot see her doing Yoga..... but you never know.

Cool

JGM,

I think she can get checked out for medical issues that can affect her periods, some of which can hinder the chances of pregnancy.

May be worth just going for a discussion with a doctor about best times during cycle, etc, etc. Even if it is just for the piece of mind it can bring.

defo worth checking out I would think. Your local hospital maternity/early pregnancy ward could probably give some advice.

there may be something causing it which they can solve for next time, assuming they are trying for a baby.

regards,

greg

The problem is not what caused her to not get preg as she is fairly sure there shouldn't be a problem there as it is not there first baby.. and it is too soon to seek medical advice.

The issue really is whether they should wait before starting trying again..

I think that they have no need to wait but I am no expert.

Unhappy

this unfortunatley happened to us last year after 8 weeks we had a scan and there was no heart beat so the wife had a d+c basically a sraping of the womb which we opted for as the alternative was to wait two weeks for it to occur naturally as a miscarriage.
the issue as i understand it is when can you start "trying" again
the advice we received was that it would probably take 3 months for things to settle down and return to normal periods but afaik if she has her next period on schedule then you should be able to try straight away
I will add that i am not a doctor so dont sue me

Matt

ps would like to ad that everything is fine now as we are expecting in Jan next year

i had a miscarriage last year, and a d+c to follow as most women do after a miscarriage, i was advised to wait a couple of cycles before trying again due to the stress my body had been put under with the op and everything, i think it is basically so that you have a couple normal periods to make sure everything is flushed out completely before trying again.

if you are trying for a baby then go see your doctor and just ask for his advice.... though i suspect you will be ok to try again pretty much straight away as it sounds as though it was a late period rather than a miscarriage... believe me your g/f would know had it been a miscarriage.

may i just add that even if u are unfortunate enough to experiance a miscarriage it is surprisingly common in first pregnancies and there is nothing to say you will not go on to have a healthy pregnancy after... i am now nearly 13 wekks pregnant, and so far so good

Same as Scoobyangel.

I had a "missed abortion" which is a rather unpleasant term for being pregnant but no heartbeat. My baby died at 8 weeks and I carried it for a further 8 weeks not knowing anything was wrong.

When I went for first scan at 16 weeks, it was discovered - Nightmare!

I was told to leave it a while before trying again. It was bloody painful anyway!! Fell pregnant about 3 months later and have a 3 1/2 year old daughter.

Good luck, hope everything is fine!!!

JGM - M8 - I feel for you. First advice is be careful - my sister in law had a freaky condition where she bled every month through her entire pregnancy. Fortunately this was a hormonal thing and Patrick is now doing well. (He startd walking about 3 weeks ago)

Other than that can I suggest that for motorbike questions you ask here and for life changing medical situations you ask a person who be qualified. Maybe one of those doctor types????

p.s. - good luck
