The P1 is now on its third tank and, whilst there is no discernible change in power at the top end (maybe a bit down but hard to tell) it has really hit the low down torque. I even had to change down on an uphill that it normally cruises up in 5th!

****e - Shell have now lost a customer as they have stopped selling the normal super unleaded.

LOL you talk crap!

Optimax is by far the best available in the UK.. (public)

Maybe your car can't hack the higher octane rating huh!!

Well, it is a scooby!

Good to see an open-minded c**t on the boards again.

a) don't appreciate you calling me a liar

b) **** off back to the site that supports your boy racer Halfords assisted rust heap

c) good luck with progressing your career beyond that of Shell forecourt attendant

Just because your car doesn't like it doesn't mean it's crap. My car runs brilliantly on it, better than SUL and way better than NUL. Maybe you should try an ECU reset to see if it makes a difference?

If you whant to call me that, do so to my face!

A) never called you a liar..My point being optimax is the best fuel 'we' the public can get from a garage..

B) Its a free world I can read what sites I like.. But some popular presenter said in a show one time, long long ago that my car did look like it just drove through halford's and come out with everything stuck on it..

C)Lets not get into this.. As i think I have the top trump card !

Who woke up on the wrong side of bed today? If you can't understand that my post was all in good humour then your a sad person..

Having said that, text can come out wrong sometimes!!

Cheer up mate, im sure it will be ok soon.. :P

There's a very long and detailed article on fuel and fuel composition here, which (if you can be bothered to read it all) explains that a fuel that works well in some cars won't be the best in others. If your car doesn't like it then that's fine - just use another brand - but that doesn't mean that it's not a good fuel.

Optimax is my preferred fuel for my MY00 with PPP. It gives my car a significant improvement in low-end smoothness over SUL, which is why I use it. Shell have gained a regular customer. Optimax is not 'pants', it just works better in some engines than others.

Andy.

DjacK

fair enough, I probably over-reacted and you're right, the written word oftens means something very different to when spoken face to face.

It's been said before on here but putting smileys on a post doesn't give free rein for insults. 'LOL you talk crap' to mean means 'you're lying.' I was hoping for objectivity rather than the usual bunker stance but hey, this IS Scoobynet.

You might be right that it's the best fuel the public can buy in the UK - or it might be ****e and akin to the last 'special' Shell fuel outing. I'm interested to know whether people are blindly believing the marketing or whether there is something about my car that means it doesn't suit (in which case Shell should be addressing it via technical info. as I said, mine isn't the only car it adversely affects).

Sorry for the confrontational response - it is Monday morning!

No prob mate.. My post did sound sarcastic!!

I think Optimax is a great fuel, although I don't actually notice a performance increase.. But it is cheaper than most SUL around my area, and does have a higher octane rating..

for what its worth, there was an article in an engineering mag (sorry can't remember title/issue no ) about the wonders of Optimax. According to the journalist, the only make of car that had improved performance was the Subaru!

In Shells own words, an in depth explanation about fuel.

My GTiR loves it and boosts higher with optimax.Any of you with a boost guage out there?Run it on SUL and watch what it boosts at,then do the same with Optimax. It's about 1.psi higher on mine and another psi with octane booster.

Anyone else running a P1 on it?

No-one I know has had a good word to say about it yet (various car incl a Jag 3.0, an Ibiza Cupra Sport, Audi TT).

The problem with altering the ECU for it is that it might **** it up and I want it to still be happy when I inevitably need to fill up with super at non-Shell garages.
