how do you spot a undercover?
#1
Just seeming that they give you hassle even when you are driving at the same speed everyone else is doing!
Three aerials?
Seen a black omega on the M27 with two blokes in it, is it a undercover? With three aerials, I'm usually wary when i see volvo estates...

usually have NO wheeltrims in case they pop off in high speed pursuits (apparently). But more and more have nice shiny alloys on nowadays (yep...even the blue light brigade are springing for the full options package....the Omega MV6 had extra horsepower, ELITE alloys, aircon and heated seats. The only thing keeping it from top of the range spec was the lack of leather interior)

The MV6's are not really in service much anymore as they are getting a bit long in the tooth.
Equivalent performance to a Volvo T-5, but rear wheel drive (I think).
It seems different catchment areas spend their budgets in different ways. For example, Hampshire plod have a few 'specials'...e.g. a boring looking 206 that I have seen going after a Clio 172 and catching it FAR to easily.
Thames valley plees (police? geddit?) have a couple of modified t-5Rs.....but I know the police are not so keen on volvo's cos they are expensive to keep running compared to vauxhalls and fords. Though it seems hampshire police also have some fully marked up BMWs........have not seen an M3 yet, but HAVE heard rumours..
not that that means much.
If you are on the Motorway...just pull over and give up.
If you are on a 'country road blat' it is worth legging it if you think you have been seen.
Twice I have seen them see me. Both times I went for 10/10 high performance driving. The guys in the volvo wussed out and were never seen again. The second time, the copper had a marked up Octavia RS (BLOODY QUICK TOO!) and he caught up...and gave me 3 points and a handshake for a fun drive!
(3 points was getting off lightly!)

I never said HIGHLY tuned
I agree most just have differing shocks.
But the MV6 was a factory tuned special.
They often invest in a few specials once in a while...
usually more as a promotional tool than as an actual workhorse.
e.g. Seen th fully marked up Lancer? it exists....but I haven't seen it on the road yet.
Or how about the Lotus Esprit they bought....drove around in and never nicked a single driver with?
MV6's had aroun 20bhp extra is all.
As for the 206....I dunno what it was..it just surprised me when I saw it going. Maybe it was a GTi with base spec body kit on?
Just saying what I see.

Sorry Steve,
you posted before I saw yours, not having a pop
Read a few mag articles in the past and they interviewed the blokey in charge of purchasing and a mechanic who both said cars were mostly standard.

Omega MV6 was just a standard 3.0 with uprated suspension.
Vectra GSi had the uprated engine, 2.5 with the 3.0 cam shafts.
Saw an unmarked (white) Porsche 956 on Hanger Lane about 5 years ago and a Yellow M3 with Police written down the sides of the sills about the same ime on the M25.
Also saw the Lotus, but was sat on the back of transporter.

Did you know the police trialled Standard Poodles as police dogs and were very impressed at their intelligence/speed/nature, but crooks never took the dogs as seriously as an Alsation

Big Goon...
An unmarked Porsch 956....wow....how did they get all the kit and the 2nd plod in then...Where they running on slicks and did they have the option of turning the boost up for qualifing (956 was/is a Le Mans prototype with a 2.7 litre air cooled, twin turboed engine give over 800BHP and was the car Derek Bell used to win Le Man. Replaced by the 962)

Not wanting to turn this into a "Maxpower" spot the cop forum but there is actually a green Scooby turbo R reg on the M3 Surrey.
You can also spot them as they do not have a dealer name on the number plates, just the letters and figures. But I doubt you will see that as they come hurtling up behind you doing more than a ton!!!

A little legal bird told me something interesting:
If you are only doing a few mph over the limit (i.e. 80mph in a 70 or whatever) and they come bombing up behind you....if they DO NOT have a blue light showing, then anything illegal you do as a 'reaction' can pretty much be considered entrapment.
Chances are, they will let you off.
From experience....next time you get pulled and given an FPN....check if the issuing officer signs and dates it...and try and avoid dating it if you can. If YOU have not dated it..it is questionable and can be invalidated.
If HE has not dated it (or in my case signed it) then he is effectively your best friend and you should buy him a beer next time you see him because he has let you off.
And (as always) give the police car that stops you a quick once over. If you can see anything qrong with it...(even a brake light out) speak to your solicitor and you could get away with it?
This is a typical "down the pub" post (i.e. it could all be ballc0cks)...but if you have been caught anything is worth trying. Hell..I don't need _another_ 6 months off.

I've been pulled by an unmarked 'poverty' Primera GT (**** alloys, non-met green), and I've passed somebody in the process of helping with enquiries in a Xantia TD, both near home (Macclesfield), so I guess anything goes these days, just be careful
Cheshire police have got a few marked and unmarked XJ8's and 5 series for the motorways.
Chapel en le Frith police station always has the nice marked cars before anyone else, i.e: MV6 Omega, T5-R, S-Type etc, despite it being part of Derbyshire Constabulary, the country's poorest police force

Few easy rules:
Plain colour.
No dealer sticker on back windscreen or markings on reg plate.
Extra aerials.
They are always a little too anonymous.

iTrader: (2)
Humberside police have 2 Scooby's: a fully marked white one, and a green metallic one.
Rumour had it that both were originally chipped etc up to 280bhp by Prodrive, but the drivers asked for them to be detuned to 260 as they were mental.(The cars, not the plod, although having said that.............)
