The fundamental problem is that neither far left or far right politics is representative of the general public, but the first-past-the-post election system (or AV for that matter) create a political divide which is ultimately non-representative of the masses yet grants ultimate power to one side!
I respect Corbyn and Abbot for being true to their leftist cause and they stand for what the Labour party should be. In reality both the Conservatives and Labour should be split in two to give a moderate center left/right and more hard line left/right parties. The center leaning parties along with a true centrist party would command the majority of votes, and the extremist loonies would have a small representation that stands true to their cause - giving them influence but ultimately no power!
If a more centrist Labour party had been around during the Brexit negotiations rather than Corbyn, then things would have run very differently! Rather than that clown Boris, we might have had Starmer negotiating a sensible Brexit which more accurately represented the 48/52% split in the vote rather than the stupid Brexit that only considered the 52% and ultimately left them unsatisfied as well!

From what I've seen, I would agree. If you want to keep a job in the public eye, there are certain groups / situations you cannot be critical of otherwise you get labelled as ... and then you lose your career / get fired, never to be seen or heard of again. Hmm...
