Default Lane hogging rant WTF!

Sooo lately I’ve been travelling on the motorway from Liverpool to accrington and back daily

everyday I come across some numpty doing 60mph in the fackin middle lane then when I indicate to take over they speed up making me having to drop a gear then get pretty angry 😡 AND then ***** doing 70 on the 3rdlane!! When asked to move over I get the middle finger 🖕🏽 😢 I really hate driving on the motorway now!

this is has happened loads of times to me in the past few weeks I don’t travel on the motorway much at all but last few weeks have been a bloody nightmare is this a regular occurrence or is it just me ☹️ WTF

sorry folks needed a rant

You should try and make the manoeuvre at least 100 yards from the vehicle in front. Remember you're travelling around 100ft/sec Prepare with plenty of time, less hassle for you and surrounding drivers.

Alternatively, stick it in adaptive cruise, enjoy the day 75 yds behind the vehicle in front.

Chill out more, safer for the rest of us

just sit in the nearside lane and cruise serenely past them - even the local plod around here are feckin' useless at lane discipline

Haha, attacked by the Germans.....you have to have the patience of a saint when driving the Subaru as it does attract idiots. I’m half expecting idiots now when I take out the Subaru although a few people do just look and wind the window down to hear the noise

cos thats the SLOW lane in'it...........even thought the trucks are often faster!!

on the odd occasion when i had to commute down the A1 you would get people totally kill themselves to get from the slip road into the outer lane and then do a handbrake turn 3 juntions further on to leave again...........

The many members of the "middle lane owners club" don't realise they are actually breaking the law by sitting there. Idiots!!!

That type are probably one reason why people hogg mid lane - a few years ago i was very nearly side swiped by someone 'filtering in' from slip road , just pulled straight out , cant even have looked imo

mainly mid lane hoggers just too plain lazy to go back into nearside lane after an exit/slip road or truck , imo

maybe they are taught it now , who knows - could be same folk taught to use right hand indicator on roundabouts , in outside lane to take the first exit

That's the one and not just on the motorway. Near murder themselves and others to get out then pull in at the next junction or shop. Infuriating

2 car lengths is less than 30ft - 9 -10 metres.at motorway speeds. This is far too short a distance. It takes over 1 second from thinking to action anything like braking. That is 100ft you have travelled before you even started to brake. You will have run into the back of the vehicle in front way before then.

Two second rule minimum gap to vehicle in front at motorway speeds, its..... 200 feet-66yds-~60 metres

Please review your driving standards-adopt a more defensive style

Thats what I do. Cruise at indicated 59ish (so 56mph actual = same as HGVs)

On a quiet day on the M25 I can end up undertaking probably 30 to 40 cars all tailgating each other in lanes 3 and 4 while lanes 1 and 2 remain pretty much clear

Seems lost on many that lanes 2,3,4 etc. are usually overtaking lanes, so if they aren’t overtaking...then what are they doing there?

Lane discipline in France and Spain is almost always perfect, even though their other driving abilities are questionable. Must be the Brexiteers who hog lanes (had to drop that in )

is the over1 second apply when stoned or sober?

Mine seems to be instant it seems like 2 car lengths anyway ✌️

I’m gonna invest in a next base dash cam x2 in next few weeks.

they just so adamant not to move over I’m not one to start horning or flashing but when you go to take over there cars soon start going over 75😢 honestly I never get out much on the motorway sticking local or to B roads
but I feel sorry for you all that have to put up with this sh!te every day to commute 😡 wtf!

Reaction times vary greatly with situation and from person to person between about 0.7 to 3 seconds (sec or s) or more. Some accident reconstruction specialists use 1.5 seconds. A controlled study in 2000 (IEA2000_ABS51. pdf) found average driver reaction brake time to be 2.3 seconds

Even if you were absolutely ready for braking, taking foot off throttle to brake and begin deceleration it would be at least a second.

Tailgating is a serious problem and falls into driving without due care and attention, even reckless and dangerous driving. I now regularly send Tesla dashcam video footage to police, so far 2 prosecutions.

Dont forget dashcam is watching you aswell as others

Honestly why would you put that on a public forum. Nothing like making yourself unpopular. It would be different God forgive if someone had been hurt/injured.

There's a time and place for everything all the same. Where's Felix
Would you like it if someone took photos of you parked with no ticket while you went for a quick pee and you got prosecuted.

this is not a dig at anyone but I’d never intentionally try to get people arrested or subpoenaed. There most likely to come unstuck through there stupid actions. I’d never go the police station with footage etc...unless there was a hit and run etc...

Im not talking of misdemeanor, trivial offences, Im talking of stupid, antisocial, inconsiderate and downright dangerous.

I dont prosecute, the police decide. One careless prosecution for persistent tailgating, the other dangerous for nearly causing an HGV to jack knife from swerving trying to avoid a smaller truck cutting across his path at 60 mph.

Regarding someone recording me, so be it. I try to be as safe as I can and use all the safety features on my car whenever possible.

If you cant see that driving standards have plummeted mainly due to virtually no traffic police. Doing something about it will hopefully bring a small change for the good.

My bug bear is littering, the amount of rubbish discarded is horrendous. Ive yet to catch on video someone tossing their McDonald's

Dead on I wouldn't want to be having a sneaky pee in your front garden at two in the morning, Next thing I'd be up for indecent exposure. Yes people do silly things but there basically called accidents/mistakes but there's no need to go running to teacher rant over say what you like now

Yeah bolox. I was once behind an idiot that was swerving all over the road, slamming on and locking the wheels up (no I wasn't tailgating!) and generally driving like a dick.

Got to a long straight and I booted it past him. It was me that got a visit from the old bill because of some self righteous ****.

Like I said, dashcam is watching you aswell as the other vehicle drivers behaviour. If you'd dropped back and let the situation unfold. Your evidence would have saved you.
