Where does all the road dirt come from???
Whenever it rains? It can't all run off verges, as it's in towns too.
It can't all be brought from building sites/fields/industrial sites.
It doesn't come down with the rain. At least not all of it.
So why ARE roads so dirty whenever it rains?

Had a meeting in Solihull Wednesday which is a 200ish mile round trip, got home and the Golf was disgusting. Rear number plate could not be read so had to give the car a quick clean today.
Normally it only takes a blast with the pressure washer but had to use snow foam, two bucket wash and going over with the pressure washer.

Good to know that there is someone who can put life's big questions into perspective
To hell with IS and thousands being murdered in Middle East, N Korea, Trump, Climate Change and that temporary local difficulty - Brexit.
Forget the trivia and tackle the real challenges that face us - roads getting dirty.
Well done that brave intellectual

The large tipper lorries are one of the biggest culprits, check what the main roads are like close to any construction site, they are supposed to go through a wash when they come off site but most don't, the roads and motorways get full of mud and other sh1te due to these @ssholes.
As mentioned road salt is another big culprit especially around winter, rain brings dust particles in the air and when the drains get fully they overflow onto the roads bringing the crap back onto the roads etc

David, I recommend that you stop watching the news, because the news contrives to frighten you, to make you feel small and alone, to make you feel that your mind isn't your own.
(And I usually think Morrissey is a prize ****, but on this rare occasion he's got it about right).
There's a main trunk road by me leading to the motorway, unlit. It has so much detritus that you cannot see the curb, the whit lines are barely visible and cannot be seen in the dark. There used to be a quarry and landfill nearby, but that has long gone, yet the road still gets covered in muck. I suspect it's from agricultural vehicles.
Meanwhile my road is now a mass of chippings; I mentioned not long ago that the council waste loads of money on microashphalt, saying it doesn't work. Well guess what, one month later after the first proper frost and its all come off. Its like driving a gravel stage in the RAC rally.
Add to that the millions of tons of grit laid down because modern tyres don't work when its a little cool, let alone the mayhem when 1mm of snow should stick.....hmm....Snowflakes..... I darnt think how their precious little world crumbles should something unforeseen happens, like a bit of bad weather, some foreign news saga, or god forbid a post Brexit downturn
