Default That'll learn me.....

During summer, lent a mate here my electric tile saw.

Just set it up and it's not cutting. The diamond blade is now a barren metal disc

And to add insult to injury, the local DIY shed want nearly £40 for a new blade.

Luckily, for once, found a spare while searching for stainless M4 screws to replace some rusty ones on the saw, and also awaiting an invoice to ship two out to me here at the chateau

I've now ordered a spare to be delivered to my home and will bring it next time I'm out here.

I tend to work on the principle that I treat others as I would want them to treat me.
(Except immigrants to the UK, of course)
I have to say I AM often disappointed.

That's fine your not the only one that treats others like you would like to be treated pal but don't lend or borrow

I always say to my neighbours or friends if you have to ask to borrow something this meaning you can't afford your own and so you shouldn't be using something you can break and can't REPLACE if you can't afford one in the first place ....

Keep life simple dude

From Shakespeare's Hamlet, 1602:

LORD POLONIUS:
Neither a borrower nor a lender be;
For loan oft loses both itself and friend,
And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.

Was ever thus.

Certainly dulled the edge of your disc.

We have neighbours at home who are takers.

They borrow, get stuff done for them, and NEVER do anything back.

I did a job for them about ten years ago, took me a whole morning.
They said they'd have us round for a Chinese as thanks.

Still waiting.

Yep. Waiting for my tile cutter to come back from a mate who needed to borrow it for a single day a couple of weeks ago. You do someone a favour.....

I had a weird neighbour once, thankfully I've since moved.
He used to call and ask for things at the most bizarre times - usually very late at night.
I assume the ****** seen the lights on, and therefore chanced his arm.
I was asked if he could borrow the lawn mower at 1 am, said mower got returned at a similar time the following night.
Asked if he could borrow sugar after midnight as he wanted to make a cake, similar story with eggs.

Another neighbour said he seen him in the back garden dressed up in his wife's clothes

Typical Brits for you, always wanting something for nothing (couldn't resist).

Joking aside, I'm totally with you on this one. If you're going to borrow something then make sure you return it in atleast the state found it in, borrowing someones tools and handing them back damaged/worn out is just taking the ****.

Always return in cleaner state than before, perfect working order, with a bottle of something or a slab of beer; it would have cost more to hire.

You're asking for trouble loaning a tile or slab cutter with new diamond discs

Next time put the old discs back on and say to your mate that cutter should be OK but he may need to get a new cutting disc. So with a bit of luck you'll get back a cutter in better shape than it was before
