If you're attacked by a group, one of whom is trying to bottle you, I would have thought that a decent lawyer could argue self-defence?

no bottle seen in the CCTV footage,
So the person who is trying to break it up you throw a punch at and deck, the poor sod in the middle didnt deserve that, not a chance he can call self defence for that,
if that was Joe Public throwing the punch who would say let him go ?

Personally I think his behaviour was disgraceful and he is not a suitable person to represent his country.
Cricket, of all sports, should demonstrate the best that we have to offer in character and honesty.
David
PS. The guy he thumped hit the concrete pretty hard with the back of his head, he could well have suffered major head trauma

Still think Stokes is going to get some serious trouble - and a possible jail term (possibly suspended) !

Leave him alone. Listen to Alan Lamb's take on it.
Everyone loves to take a celebrity down. Sun newspaper and its readers thrive on this. As evidenced here

As a cricket fan and a Stokes fan on the pitch he needs the book thrown at him. That's not self defence in that video. He likes a drink and it's got him in trouble before, this time I think he's for it and rightly so. The Aussie press are already having a field day with this ahead of the Winter Ashes tour. He needs dropping from the tour let alone as Vice Captain. What do the ECB think will happen down under, the Aussies will provoke him massively whilst on tour and do everything they can to get him in the ****.
He just earned £1.5 million for 6 weeks work in the IPL back in April. WTF is he doing out behaving like that with such a promising career at stake as well as a highly financially rewarding one. The blokes an idiot, at 26 a millionaire and spending his time pi$$ing it up and fighting muppets in a pub and right before what could possibly have been a career defining test series in Aus.

Now they will almost certainly have to replace him with a bowler.

Hes a silly boy likely to throw away a lucrative career.
And the fact he was due to play 3 days later doesn't say much for the England coaches allowing players to get rat ar$ed with an important game ahead.
I know they cant molly coddle each and everyone of them but surely they can do tests to see if they have been behaving prior to training and games.
It is no wonder we cant string a series of wins together as win one we celebrate , then turn up pi$$ed for the next game.
Don't get me wrong I like a drink but if I had ever has such an opportunity to have a career like that then I would have the sense to protect it.
