Why not? He's already had a season in F1 with Manor and is already contracted to Mercedes and touted as their next big star! No other big names are available, so he's the logical choice IMHO!

Each driver picks a number between 2 and 99 when they start their F1 career and they keep it until they retire from F1 so there is no swapping and changing like there used to be. This gives the drivers a driver number that they can use for marketting throughout their career e.g. Bottas has #77 and has come up with "Bo77as" as his slogan.
#1 is reserved for the champion and they have the option to use it while they are champion but they can also opt to keep their own number if they prefer. Hamilton chose to keep #44 while he was champion. Its also the number he used to race as in his karting days.

£100m is pocket change in F1,
Forgot most of them had already chosen numbers
Be good to see the #0 on a car tho
If they were looking to buy out i can't see Alonso wanting paired with Lewis again ??

Well, as MB pretty much fixed it for Nico to win this year, I'm not surprised he's decided to leave. Without engine failures etc this year, Hamilton would have annihilated him. You could see by Nico's reaction following his championship win, that he knew he hadn't beaten Hamilton.
Hamilton would have destroyed him next year (without MB blowing up his engines) and he probably knew that. Retire as unbeaten world champ.

How do you know Hamilton would destroy Rosberg next year? Rosberg has always been quick. He won GP2 then got promoted by Williams. He's driven the higher downforce cars in previous seasons and shown well in inferior cars. If you ask me, I'd say it would be close, nowhere near destroy/annihilation.
P.S. I'm a neutral fan

Probably knows he won't win it again, more because of options available than ability, may as well quit while you're ahead, been there done that, box ticked move onto the next thing.
He's a talented driver and still a young lad so I doubt that will be it as far as driving is concerned, maybe he'll go and do Nascar, world is his oyster, he's probably got 20/30mill in the bank so he can pretty much do as he likes.
Can't fault the lad.

Yeah pretty much my thoughts as well. Scheming, selfish **** bag.
I have always thought Rosberg had a secretive side to him, like a spoilt rich kid. The way he has driven aggressively alongside Hamilton, yellow flag during quali at Monaco, the collision at Spa, driving Hammy off track in Hungary and again in Spain this year etc. I don't recall Hamilton's driving being as overtly aggressive.
He knows he can't match Hamiltom on equal terms and had virtually no chance of winning the championship again on his own merit. He's also dumped MB in it big style: thanks for all you've done for me, I'm off.
I see it along the lines of the kid who takes his ball away so none of the other kids can play. Of course there will be another championship next year, but no one will be able to say they beat world No1 Rosberg, and the records will always show he retired unbeaten.
