Default windows 10 - 1607 build

Lots of downloading and a lengthy 'install updates' process, and build 1607 had arrived and completed its install on my test laptop.

Anyone care to save me some time on google, to see what is new and improved in this build?

not sure if it is an improvement, but Cortana keeps popping up annoying messages ; lock screen images have taken over (cant seem to turn them off either....)

Hmmm. I regularly lose Wi-Fi connection when laptops on standby last week or so

Have to troubleshoot and then it's fine

I've upgraded one laptop and the update failed on another.

As mentioned by albob, Cortana seems to want to take over, but I've pretty much got rid of it by going into the Cortana Notebook section and turning everything off.

That update must have taken over an hour and a half when I switched my laptop on first!

I've gone back to Windows 7 this weekend. I've had nothing but trouble with Windows 10 since my machine upgraded itself... The PC has run very slowly and I keep losing the Start bar (temporary fix from Microsoft to resolve that but it keeps happening).

Ah yes build 1607 the "Anniversary Edition", been out a while now, nothing but praise from me, loads of unseen bugs fixed, behind the scenes improvements and performance updates.

I like the Cortana changes and the fact that it now integrates with an Android or Windows phone using the Cortana app, you just have to be signed into both, one on PC one on your phone. Cortana app is not available to iphones as Apple has locked down the permissions it needs.

Not sure which Cortana you're talking about but this one from Microsoft is available on iPhones

Yep sorry it is available to iPhones, but as per my link the integration/certain features won't work as they are locked down in iOS.

Security is a big part of Apple software.

Back on track I'm updating today, will post a whine later about how long it took.

The features can still be secure and available, Apple just choose not to make those things available, as per usual.

If that was some kind of troll at the time taken to update Windows, the Anniversary update which is ~20gigs in size took about 20mins to complete from automatic start to finish on my rig.

5mins? lol something wrong with it then. When i check manually its always instantaneous. Having said that the AE is being rolled out user by user, so it may not be available to you yet.

Mines ok.

Apart from it decided to auto update at 3:00am (never turn off the laptop). Laptop was in its sleave so obviously ran hot, so the cooling fan kicked in and woke me up

Other than putting my desktop into tablet mode, so far so good.

I didn't include download time as it was automatic i didn't even notice, until it requested the restart to install it.
