I tried to take macro picures of melting icicles and water droplets and it is not as easy as you would think.

I started off last night using a macro lens and ring flash but did not get very good results, plus I have never done it before.

I then decided to try during the day with no flash.




Much fatser shutter speed but stil not enough.




cranked it up to 1/2000sec




also 1/2000 sec

anyone else managed to get decent pics of melting icicles or snowflakes?

5, 7 and 8 with reflection capture are magical! I like the rest for their definition and the life in them. Absolutely fantastic images, Steve! These images can enter photography competitions.

I have never thought about entering a competition as I never thought I was good enough.

The last pic also has reflections in every drop but it may be more obvious in the full size pic.

The biting winter seems to have subsided for a while it is now above freezing
Normally though Jan/Feb is wicked cold.

 

I was on my iPhone before. On my big iPad now. Laptop is switched on too, and yes, on both big screens I can see the reflection in every drop in the last pic!

I'm not some professional photography judge or anything, but what I can tell you that your images are superb! Make a website for yourself and sell your photographs. They will sell to the ones that appreciate such depth and definition.

Not that cold here either today. That's why I dared to go out for a long walk and loved the mild breeze touching my skin.

Cool! Some very crisp images there but these icicle ones are outstanding imo! You should put these up on your website.

Every of these images are so immaculate that I'm having a difficulty to choose one as my most favourite. I like ALL of them! The transparency, purity, reflective ability and the melting nature of these icicles on stiller than still backdrop is so well absorbed by the lens and then reflected back on the screen that the visual intake of it in just so rewarding to the eyes! Wins on every level for me.
