Default New car / private plate advice ?

Guys anyone offer any advice on the following ? due to pick up my new but used car next wed from the garage, have placed a deposit today and due to pick the car up next wed, now the dealer says they will tax the car on wed if I pay for it whilst collecting the car.

So okay I have a private plate on retention certificate that I want to get on the car ASAP , according to the garage I will have to wait on the new v5 comming back to me before I do but sure there would be some way I could put the plate Straight on when collecting the car ?

Any advice on the above regards what I would have to do / advise garage to do for me collecting the car on wed ?

Cheers,
John

The dealer is right you will have to wait for the log book to come back in your name which would only take a few days then you can transfer it on line as the new car is in your name. I work for a main dealer and we have stopped doing the transfers for customers because the dvla have the right to keep the plate if there are any discrepancies in the paper work and we won't take a chance on that so the first option is the best for you.

okay thanks mate really do appreciate your clearing that up. we also had to put a deposit down on the car which was in our case £100 not sure if this is refundable or part off the finance fee, will have to check with them, any idea yourself which it normally is ?

The £100 usually comes off the price of the car and goes straight into the garage's bank account........ kerching!

Have things changed as I've done it using the new keepers slip in the past.
