Images of dead children on facebook
Just on facebook and a friend of a friend posted images of dead children that had been washed up on a Mediterranian beach. The children were rufugees and had drowned from a capsized boat. I found the images upsetting and distressing to view. I don`t think this kind of thing is appropriate for facebook and I had no choice in seeing them, I just scrolled down and they were there. What do you think?

I'm of two minds on this stuff. I think forcing people to realise the pain and suffering when they normal shy away from it is a good thing.
However, personally I find animal abuse extremely upsetting, probably more so than human to be honest and I hate it when I click a link, or scroll down and see something that ticks that box.
**** world we live in.

It is indeed a **** world we live in.
i have a split, almost hypocritical opinion on this. Half of me says that the world should be shown what's going on and should not just hide away from it or turn a blind eye. The other half says 'ignorance is bliss'.
Having served around the world, in many 3rd world and war-torn countries and sporting a few medals on my chest, I have chosen to turn a blind eye. Why? Well, I have come to the conclusion that no matter how much money, time and effort is pumped into some countries, it's a completely wasted effort. Let them get on with killing each other in the name of religion (key word) until there's nothing left, then start again.
In the mean time, I'll live happily in complete ignorance, because I can, and because I've experienced first hand how utterly pointless trying to help these people is.

Why are pictures of dead women and children any worse than pictures of dead men? all I hear on the news is there were x dead women or x dead children, the men seem to be expendable. I personally could not give a damn about these dead anybody, if they don't have the common sense to not get in an over crowded or leaky boat then they deserve what they get. Also if they cared about their kids they would not get in said boat in the first place. I have also worn the Queens green and brown splodgy clothes and been to various sh1tholes around the world.

I'd be giving serious thought to ditching this friend too, if it had taken them until now to realize large parts of the world's population lead a generally quite miserable and precarious existence. Or you could send them some Starbucks vouchers, see if they get the hint.

I think too much censorship masks us from the real world. Hiding its doesn't make the world all nice, safe and fluffy. Although I'd like to be warned first; just in case I'm eating.
I compare it to how the meat industry is pretty much hidden away...we get our cow or chicken in a shrink-wrapped package, cook and eat with knowing what its been through to get to the supermarket/butcher. Now I'm no veggie, quite the opposite, but I do think it very wrong to hide away the rearing, slaughter and processing from the consumer...or kids for that. They should know where our food comes from...and not just food products; anything else animal based...glue, wax crayons, clothing, leather car seats/sofas. We should know, and not from just reading it in a textbook/wiki page.
So going back to the dead children...censoring it is basically hiding away that its happening. Much like the genocide in the former Yugoslavia or the holocaust, with the former it was reported on the news daily at the time, but most of western world didn't pay much attention to it; it was only until footage of the atrocities was aired that magnitude of killing was realised. Its easy to read about it and not relate to it or absorb the gravitas of its importance, especially with the way modern media exaggerates everything which detaches us further in the same way we read a fiction novel. So a picture, or video paints more than a thousand words; there's is no way one can just gloss over or trivialise it.So long as people post advanced warning and the likes of social media switched off that bandwidth sucking autoplay!!

I'm personally upset that kids and grown ups (of both sexes) are desperate enough to get onto leaky boats (just imagine how utterly **** your existence must be if you're willing to put YOUR KIDS onto a boat like that). Not showing pictures of it doesn't mean it isn't happening, and if some people change their opinion of "dose damn immergrants her to claim benifits", then quite frankly I support it - post more pictures.
We have *SO* much resources almost everywhere in Europe, and I think it is our moral duty to help people, who lets be honest, are in absolutely desperate need. I don't really see how this is any different to the genocide perpetrated in Germany/Poland/Russia or in ex-Yugoslavia, etc, and if we don't help, then history will judge us (perhaps appropriately) as a self centered and callous bunch.

I think what is happening is terrible and the human world should be ashamed of itself and it is time these kind of problems should be sorted in a humane way by the world leaders as there is something drastically wrong when people cannot live a safe and happy life in their own country.

As upsetting as those images might be, the sad truth is the human population on this planet has now expanded to a size far far bigger than is needed to ensure the species's survival. To put that into perspective, if the population had continued growing at the same linear rate that it was before the Industrial Revolution, it would now still be below 3/4 billion, 10 times smaller than it actually is. Does that mean we shouldn't give a **** what's happening to these people? Absolutely not, but by the same token, it would be absolute lunacy to invite the entire world to come here and live in Europe, just because other parts of it can't manage their own affairs adequately.

However in my opinion the portrayal of dead, dying, or otherwise abused children is particularly sickening as they rarely have any say in the matter that caused their demise. This is what ranks them often as the absolute victims.
