TIVO WHAT AN EXCELLENT BUY
#1
I'm not normally into these gadgets, but i must say after setting up the tivo last night and using it this morning, what a great piece of kit it is.
Never again will i miss programme i want to watch, if you press the thumbs up button on the remote it will record that programme and then record it everytime its on.
I can strongly recommend this machine.

Just a shame that after the 'spam TV' incident, it now looks like the BBC are pulling out of supporting TiVo - which means there's now a good chance that TiVo will go bust (they lost 17m last quarter).

The BBC 'downloaded' an episode of a new series they were promoting to about 50,000 TiVo units across the country. They claimed that it was okay because people could just ignore the recording (the 'delete' function was disabled for it) until it auto-deleted a couple of weeks later.
However, many people were upset because it was a post-watershed programme, but because it was stored on the TiVo unit without their knowledge or consent, it would mean that children could potentially watch it when they shouldn't be able to.

Just because the BBC got their fingers burnt, doesn't mean that TiVo is going to go bust.....
From the information I have seen (not a lot admittedly), they are trading within their projected business plan.
Thanks

Yes bought mine from Powerhouse too and like it.
There are several additional features from Sky+ and from what I have read those that have tried both prefer the Tivo. Take a look at the Tivo Uk site where you can see a comparisonhttp:

I think it is fair to say that the Sky+ box has better hardware IMHO but it is currently let down by the software....
The Sky+ box has 2 x digital tuners (compared to the one analogue one in the TiVo) and can support Dolby Digital 5.1
But
Unfortunately the way Sky has implemented season passes relies on the broadcasters playing ball - apparently C4 and C5 don't - and only some series are supported on the other non-Sky channels...
The other advantage with TiVo is that it will work with multiple systems (analogue cable/digital cable/digital terrestrial).
The extra £10 per month for Sky+ is a bit of a choker as well considering the box doesn't dial up for listings info.
Considering you can get a second box from Sky for £13 each month - you could have a TiVo and 2 Sky boxes at a lower cost - especially if you managed to get in on the Powerhouse offer!
Thanks
