Thanks, I am not entirely sure they were triggered by an IR or trip wire.
It would be good if they could be tripped by another method (IR, electrical signal from perimeter alarm etc.)
That would scare ****less an intruder!

I was under the impression that it was just a much smaller amount - so when fired very close the can cause injures
Wasn't Brandon Lee killed by a blank?

It is why the military fit blank firing adaptor to the end of their small arms and machine guns whilst still employing saftey zones around the muzzle end.
Pamp 21 - for those who know.
b. The following danger areas exist from the muzzle of the weapon:
(1) Rifle/LSW/Carbine, L115A3, MP7 and LMG — 1 metre forward and 1 metre in the vertical and horizontal plane.
(2) 12.7mm HMG fitted with the L9A1 BFB — 30 metres forward and 2 metres in the vertical and horizontal plane.
(3) All other weapons — 30 metres.
(4) If the general public are present the distance is 30 metres for all weapons.
Many years ago a mate of mine fired a 76mm blank at a german bus shelter, it was fewked!

8mm blanks are totally different from the military type stuff where they just crimp the ends. The pistol I have has a solid barrel so nothing comes out of it. Totally safe other than the hot casings it ejects

I think people are getting carried away with the deadly blanks thing. The mine type blank firer uses a shotgun cartridge blank. He's not about to put military 76mm blanks in a mine, or any other type of blank.
The shotgun ones are perfectly safe as I've been in the firing line on more than one occasion, you might get a disc of card come at you.
I used to use one exactly as in the link on my garage. Was quite a shock at 7am when you forgot about it, the blast would set my car alarm off too.

Yep a criminal but still a victim, the joys of British Justice.

Without wadding and resistance there is no blast in a progressive burning powder. Without resistance it doesn't explode it just burns, so if it goes bang there is resistance and the blast is forcefully expelled somewhere (muzzle or side exit) and is potentially dangerous. In the UK the employment of any such device for house security is illegal.
