Why go through the circus that was his reelection to then resign two working days later, he must have been given the nod that he'll be picked up in the morning by the Swiss authorities and or the FBI.

Exactly what I was thinking, he refused to step down and now after all this he quits. Something or someone has finally pushed him to do it.

I'm a bit torn on the Qatar WC. It's far enough off to bin it off but there's already been a big human cost with migrant worker deaths building the stadiums over there. Would be a huge waste to simply pull the plug and divert it here. The Russian one should go ahead. It should be about the sport and not political points scoring. Love them or loathe them, they've "won" their bids and that's that. They've just won it bent......and that's now a matter of record. It's not like Argentina were docked a WC Trophy for that handball......amongst other injustices.
I wonder if anyone would feel tremendous guilt if our Olympics/European Football Championships hostings were later flagged up as equally bribed/bent.
The world needs a little controversy.

or - you could take the opposite view and bin it now, to save the future lives that will be lost by carrying on ?!?!

For all the other countries involved in the bidding process I can see law suits landing on FIFA's door step, if again it is proven, wanting to reclaim the monies the spent putting their bids together.
The Irish pay off after the Henry handball is just another example of bribbing (under the banner of a loan ), this story is going to run and run and will make the Lance Armstrong affair look like a storm in a tea cup once all the fat pigs start spilling their guts, they're not going to want to go into the U.S. prison service sharing a cell with Bubba, no open prisons over there..
Plea bargains a plenty me thinks

If it's proved they "paid" to secure enough votes to host the WC then they should lose it simple as that, they shouldn't be rewarded by allowing them to keep it.

yes, this is modus operandi of the Americans, especially the FBI
they basically threaten you with a 30 year stretch, but drastically reduced it if you cooperate and plea bargain
once you crack, and spill the beans, they go after the next guy in the chain
and say, "so and so is cooperating, he has given us all this evidence, we are going to put you away for a 30 stretch, unless you cooperate"
and then repeat on the next guy until they get to the end
and in this case the initial person was Chuck Blazer, and they had him wear a wire for 3 odd years - one can only imagine the evidence they have accumulated
and yes - as I remarked at the time, once the FBI got involved in the Armstrong affair, it collapsed like the charade it was, and pretty quickly

Jack Warner looks like the one to stitch Blatter up if all the reports are to be believed and it's obvious he is after one big plea bargain before he gets taken off to the US from the West Indies.
