Foot Patrol will solve everything

I know its the Daily Mail, but do people still believe that a "bobby walking the streets" will prevent and solve everything!!!
Just wondered if people believe that this is still relevant and if that is what the public would really want to happen if they could be in charge of the police

Such as.....
I'm not saying it hasn't happened, but if anything it will be an exception than the norm
Besides which, its the courts who dish out the punishment, i'm interested in what the 'general public' think of the initial question

Regarding the original question, yes I think seeing police engage in the community would solve a hell of a lot more issues for people than arresting @monkeyspank69 for calling @dave1212 a c**t on Twitter, which is all we seem to hear the police do these days.

I think they should make a bigger thing of walking beat bobbies. It'll keep them fitter for one thing!
We used to have plenty where I grew up in the 80s/90s. As kids, we always got "spoken to" if stuff we did was unacceptable. We'd get frogmarched back to Mummy and given a dressing down in front of her too if it was needed. As a result I've never served time in prison. It didn't work for all the kids in my area but it did for at least the 5 I stayed in touch with/hear about through Dad. We always knew not to mess with them and they were a regular site, not just someone you see on TV or driving through.
Unfortunately, budget cuts are/have been decimating frontline workers. Part of the reason my Mummy took early retirement from the Force (she wasn't a copper when I was a junior, that came a bit later).
CCTV is great for evidence, but people are aware of cameras and/or immune/ignorrant to them. They are a tool to use as a deterrant but not a deterrant in their own right I don't think.
