Was she dead, it's fairly despicable

Totally if she was half alive.

The other superlatives are are bit crazy imo. ( the person clearly has little conscience )

Hasnt inner Manc always been one of the lowest places to exist?

There was that stabbing time death of Asian student couple years back in broad daylight

The way I read it, was that she was still alive (but dying IYSWIM), when the bloke - nay, utter cu*t - stole it.

The worst kind of scum.

She did eventually die. At the scene? Not sure.

I see so much aggro on this thread for a dysfunctional stranger who stole a purse from a dying woman. Yes, a terrible act, but what about some close relatives of the dying people wishing for their quick death in order to grab their left over belongings? I've seen it, it happens. it happens more than one can imagine.

Things like this happen when a heartless son of a disabled, dying widow mother conspires with his wife to forge mother's signature on her will, so that the other sibling gets fvvk all, and then he lives with his sweet family happily ever after in the late mother's house that she built with the hard earned money; together with her late, dear husband.

There are plenty of this sort around; in some very so-called 'high status' walks of life.

What's more despicable? You tell me.

This thread is about slating that particular, rotten, stranger of a man to that dying lady, but on the level of conscience, morals and attachment, this crime is nowhere as bad as the ones committed by the vulture-like uncaring relatives who the dying one trusts and cares for; all his/her life. Most times, such happenings go unrecorded. Dying person is too weak to do anything about it, and if the stealer happens to be your own blood, what can you do.

These things have been ever thus

People often refer to the war and the blitz as example of how it was better except the facts don't back them up

Plent of crime, burglary and looting in the blitz, from bombed out homes

And the simple fact is crime including violent crime has been on a downward curve

That is not to excuse this person dispicable behaviour

You mean recorded crime has been on a downward curve?

Sorry, but while I agree that there always has been crime I just don't think some of these more despicable acts would have occurred 50 years ago!

Some of the dispicable acts you listed also occured some 50 years ago too, child murders, celebrity paedophiles, violent robberies, racial attacks, etc. The "perceived" difference we see when compared with the past is that media, what's reported and access to it is far more prevalent today than it was back then. Every generation has a "golden era".

Nope, I don't agree. A lot of the downward spiral has occurred in the last 30 years, since society started to become driven by greed and selfishness!

No supprise there then!

But we weren't talking about some downward spiral begining 30 years ago or about greed and selfishness. My comment was in reply to the point you raised regarding dispicable acts that wouldn not have occured 50 years ago, The abuse of children by numerous celebrities and politicians occured in the seventies and from a personal perspective, racism back then was far far worse than what we see now.

But also we see acts of altruism that we see today that we didn't see or hear of back then like the woman who raised over £200k for a disabled victim of a violent mugging, or the money raised for cancer treatment by a cancer paitient trying to fulfil his bucket list, and the millions raised by thousands of people to various charities and thousands of thankless jobs carried out by thousands of volunteer helpers caring for the less abled, etc etc. Charities receive far more in donations today than they did back then.

I am not surprised, there is a lot more charity needed now after 35 years of right wing and centre right (masquerading as socialist) governments.

I disagree about racism being worse in the 70s. There was a lot less understanding back then and most racism was based on that .... today it has a nasty and more sinister edge to it. It's less obvious now I grant you, but deeper rooted and more underground. It's not pleasant.

I was listening to some Jews on the radio describing how there had been some 300 individual attacks on UK synagogues and Jewish people in the last few months. They were saying 25 years ago there were protests in the streets by the NF and the likes, but today it's all about cowardly attacks on individuals of all creeds and colours by all creeds and colours

Anyway IMO it's become a sad nasty small minded little country and the sooner I am on my way the better.

If we take what you say of people being more selfish and greedy now as true, well then there would be no charities today!

With regards to racism, my personal experience of it was that it was far worse. I've had to witness bomber jacketed skinheads smash up and vandalise my parents shop too many times I care to count and my siblings and I getting abuse in and outside of school and it wasn't limited to my ethnicity either, anyone whose skin was not white was fair game. My parents endured a decade of this until things started to get better during the very late seventies and eighties. That is how I see it is much better now and glad that my kids do not have to put up with the **** we had to deal with back then.

What we see now with regards to the Jewish and Muslim communites is a direct result of the politics and foreign policy and how the media portrays Islam and, separately, Israel.

I would like to respond, but frankly I can't be f**ked and no that is no reflection on you ... just this place in general right now.

What I will just say is that despite our differences that catalogue of **** you and your family had to put up with turns my stomach. I am glad it is better for you now.

Racism was FAR worse in the 70s and at all levels, whether that be institutional or the personal in your face type.

But then what would Jon and I know, we only happened to have lived through it.

I'm pretty sure the same was probably true in relation to homophobia and sexism.

Islam decided it owned the plight of the Palestinians long before Gulf war 2. You can probably go back to the 70's & 80's when the Arab-Israeli conflict became a Muslim issue and not just an Arab one.

As for the rise of Islamism in the UK is to dates back to before Gulf war 2, specifically to the 90's when we gave shelter to numerous Islamist preachers who were kicked out of the Muslim world for being too radical; London became a hotbed for radical Islam.
