Question

Why subscriptions??

How did you get one on Monday - when the offer is Tuesday only?

I would say that I reckon this is ITV Digital all over again - they cannot sell 'em can they??

Pete

You have now edited OUT the fact that you have bought one!! You wouldnt be telling porkies, now would you??

well i've called four stores and all are saying its £229, one said £300!

One chap did say that it could be specific to the store you purchased yours from.

Have so far tried chichester, crawley, horsham, tunbridge wells and alton and they are all saying £229-£300 unless you buy a thompson tv as well then its free.

There is (from reading the manual and faqs) a seperate cable that needs to purchased in order for it to change channel on cable, but the answer would appear to be yes.

Have a look at the various faw sites if you want to be sure.

The uk version of the tivo faq is here - http://www.garysargent.co.uk/tivo/faq.htm

Nabbed myself one, kinda big, but hey it's fun.

Now just how long till I violate the warranty and splash another £280 for a pair of 120GB Maxtor HDs

FWIW, oddly there's two colchester stores, right next door to each other, both knew about the offer and obligingly had only display models (call me paranoid, but I don't fancy a display anything from those stores with a HD in it!), bury st. edmunds had one, held it for me, but needing pointing to their own advert on top of their display to be convinced of the price

I've had a Tivo for well over a year now and have got to say thats it probably the 2nd best thing I've ever bought (the 1st being my Scoob).

You end up watching less TV, but the stuff you do watch is exactly what you want to, its like having your own TV channel.

So what if it doesnt allow for recording of one channel whilst watching another! 99% of the stuff on Sky is repeated anyway.

Not connected in anyway with Tivo - just a very satisfied customer!

If you are very quick, Powerhouse (the electrical chain) are selling Thomson TiVo units for £99 until Tuesday close!

EDIT: My post seems to be travelling in time - offer valid for Tuesday 4th June ONLY

Their web site does not mention their offer but I have just gone and bought one for my parents at £99.99.

To find your nearest store: Powerhouse store finder

Phone them first as one of our local branches quoted me £229 - the other said £99.99 ...

Subscription is £10 per month or £200 for the lifetime of the box.

More details here: TiVo community thread

TiVo's web site: TiVo

Thanks

Gavin

Pete,

I've had one for 18 months - I got one for my parents today (in the original post if you read it ).

I edited the day as I realised that the shops would have shut on Monday as I posted it... ..and the BBS had the date of my post as Wednesday 8th June...

There was a thread about TiVos a couple of days ago - hence the post - no other motive!

Thanks

Gavin

Its in and out your post like a ***** house in Manchester!! You cheeky git!!

So? you bought one today (Monday) for £99 although the offer is for Tuesday ONLY?? Thats smart work!

However thanks for the tip off - whats this subscription thing?? You mean you have to PAY to use it??? you can get Nicam Videos for £149 these days - so why bother with a TiTo??

you dont pay to use it, you pay to be able to download the tv listings etc, without which its just acting like a video recorder where you have to record yourself.

but with the subscribe it looks at the listings and records stuff it thinks you might like etc (see my other post for other interesting details and scocs etc.)

Paul Daniels better be worried - post edited at 18:12 but I can transform the information at will 2.5 hours later!

The subs are to receive phone updates of telephone schedules which are to a freephone number. The TiVo can be used without subscription but the functuality is severely reduced (to about the level of a VCR) .

The offer is for the Jubilee weekend but Tuesday is the only day left that the offer runs after I posted....

The TiVo does a number of things a Nicam VCR can't - check out their web site for the full spec: http://www.tivo.co.uk/

Thanks

Gavin

I'm glad you are managing to find them - taking advantage of their offer is a lot more difficult than it should be...

Thanks

Anyone still having problems - it may be worth quoting the information below from a post on the TiVo community BBS - although I haven't verified this personally:

"Just picked up a TIVO box [for £99] using the discount code 07, Product Code 030611"
If they refuse to sell @ £99 then it's worth quoting the above code.
(Let's face it, it's worth £99 just for spares!)

Another post on the same BBS which may help:

If you don't live near Liverpool but would like a TIVO for this price you could call the Speke branch on 0151 494 9308 and order one using your credit card, but if you do this they charge £12 extra because they have to deliver it to your door but it's still worth it.

IHTH

Thanks

Gavin

just ordered one from the speke branch, they say they have had 80 ordered today through people seeing it on a bbs, will be delivered next sat or just after
They also say there is alot of confusion about the sale in Powerhouse stores, they have had other stores ringing them up to see if they are selling at that price
Thanks for the info Gavin

Is TivO any good? I remember reading a review of this and Sky+. Both got 5 stars but Sky+ did let you record one channel when watching another sky channel (big plus).

That and the dolby digital ability where the only plus points i could see for sky+, but the price of this and some of its other features make it a bargain for £99!

Depends on your Cable box

Pace 1000 and 2000 series boxes, need a dongle from Tivo.
4000 Series boxes don't and seem to work fine.

Look underneath at the model code.

If anyone is pondering a purchase, you only have 1 hour before the offer ends!

If anyone does decide to upgrade quickly, I would recommend a minimum 48 hour burn-in period to make sure the unit is OK beforehand.

When I did my upgrade, I posted this which may help:

Thanks Gavin,

had to ring twice to convince my local shop but they were fine after they checked out my story.

Any more good stuff like this Gavin? I just need a widescreen TV and DVD!

Damn

I knew something like this would come up whilst I was ScoobyNet-less over the long weekend. I walked past PowerHouse yesterday too!

Might phone them up and see if they'll still oblige

Question

I bought mine yesterday at Powerhouse Bracknell and picked it up today. I have just phoned them on behalf of a friend and they say that they are carrying on the offer today and possibly tomorrow.

Since I can't plug this thing in yet, does anyone know exactly what this unit can still do if you don't subscribe?

Cheers,

Nick
