If you can't beat them, join them.

Trying to bring change from within Westminster rather than outside it; potentially he'll be far more effective than he could ever be in Holyrood, especially now Labour may be destroyed in Scotland come the GE. Don't see how it's hypocrasy?

No, hypocrisy is a wrong term to denote Salmond's move. He's an opportunist for sure. He bent where the wind blew. That's called politics. Why should he be down in the dumps, and quit politics altogether; just because he didn't get his way on his own patch? If he did, then he would be unfit for a his career, for not being thick-skinned. Also, his move is much more digestible than whatshisname.... Mark Reckless's who recklessly moved to UKIP with his backstabbing technique at the time of the party conferences, and that lizard lookalike delirious Farage was laughing his teeth out as usual at that. They're all essentially the chameleons, but some are more chameleonic than others.

I think a politician is a cross between a potato and a sociopath, not just a sociopath. For that reason, I do see the justification for their existence.

Hypocrite no, Bloody clever yes!

Anyway, the hypocrite just scooped the politician of the year award, I'm actually glad to have someone like him who has a bit of spine about him (unlike the rest of the slimy toads who frequent the place) in Westminster.

He wanted to be away from the rules of Westminster and has called them for ages, now he wants to be part of government he wanted gone from Scotland. Sounds like a hypocrite to me but it appears politician is what you are calling it?

In a similar vain, Nigel Farage is the leader of UKIP and also an MEP, fighting to bring town Europe from within. Opportunism as said above, rather than hypocrisy.
