Always a controversial figure but worth listening to. He had a few minutes on "This Week" last night giving his opinion on why Britain should not join in the air campaign against ISIL in Iraq.
In fact he made some very good points after condemning ISIL for the evil group they are.
To summarise he was saying: -
1) Bombing ISIL targets makes little difference in the overall military scheme of things and inevitably leads to civilian deaths and resentment
2) George was doubtful that Saudi planes, for example, were actually taking part. But the Saudis had 700 fighters which were available (although some more training might be needed).
3) The less we were involved the less of a target we would be for home terrorist attacks
4) His view was that "boots on the ground" was the only way to defeat ISIL but this was an Arab problem and countries like Saudi had better step up to the plate
Now I am sure Cameron will get his vote today but George has made me question UK involvement.
Any views?

I don't think the West can win a war what IS considers a religious war to establish a caliphate, you cannot defeat an ideology with bombs. There is no central leadership or governing body to target, it is analogous to an endless "wack-a-mole" game, take one out and a few more pop up elsewhere. Rather than the west taking direct action, I think it would be better in supporting the surrounding countries to control the spread of IS.

Could they make up their bloody mind on what they want to be called. One minute it's ISIS; then Islamic State, IS or ISIL. Depending which day of the week it is.

When is the West going to realise that forcing a Christian based lifestyle/system on an arabic state is a waste of time. Those arabic nations who "accept it" are the most barbaric and oppressive in the world (UAE, RoSA etc etc) behind closed doors.
Tolerance is not a practice that the Middle East as lived by since it's birth. Religion and it's use as an excuse in conflicts proves the point.

They wanted to bomb Syria but democracy said NO.
So they sent their very own "agents" out there to commit attrocities and now democracy says YES.
The innocent will suffer yet again and the bankers will get richer.
The Iraqi people have suffered terribly as a result of Western involvement.
"Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime."

Thankfully the vast majority of MP's saw sense on this one and now we will actually help take action. As for the long term plan, well clearly it is to dismantle ISIL, how that will unfold, time will tell.
One things for sure, doing nothing & holding discussions about ...er...doing nothing, will not stop them, thats a definite.
