Replacement tv surround sound
My lovely wife to be decided today to spill juice on our Panasonic 5.1 system. It's fried so needs replaced.
Needs a DVD player, few speakers and a sub or sound at? Open to ideas guys. Nothing earth shattering, running through a 2 year old Samsung Led tv and Virgin box.
Not after top high end, probably go to Currys as need one tomorrow. Any suggestions upto about £300? Wireless or very simple would be great. Room is 4x5 yards in size.
Cheers

Thought about trying a Sound Bar? I've been really impressed with our reasonably cheap one. Also, is it not time to upgrade to a blu-ray player now they are so cheap?

Blu-Ray players play ordinary DVD's yes? If so, great time to upgrade too if within budget.
I'm stuck on 2-10 shift today so can't really have a good look until this evening.

The sound bar I bought splits into two standing speakers so I've put one either side of the TV rather than one bar across the bottom.
I just found it a better solution that having speakers and wire all round the room. And be honest, how often do you really appreciate surround sound? I don't miss it all as the sound is still really good.
Might be worth having a demo somewhere?
Yes blu-rays still play DVD's. I think our one was only about £60

It's 'old' now, but is a cracking player. (I have one). Does everything you need.
Multi region (region-free) out of the box - just turn off 'Automatic Update' (so the firmware doesn't get updated to a newer version):

I looking for one to,hooked up the old Sony with three speakers and too much wiring.
And notice the action part of the movies are loud and in yer face, but normal talking is low quality.
Decided to scrap as is about 7 years old.
Shopping in prague at Datart was looking at the sound bars, and ended up getting a good deal on a 50 inch led lg tv,just need some good sound to go with it.

I've got a LG sound bar with separate wireless 200w subwoofer. The sound quality is simply amazing with superb bass.
Also the 3d surround genuinely sounds like there are speakers behind you...how the hell does that work?
It was about £190 from currys. Can be connected to the TV wirelessly, optical cable or HDMI if I remember.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I went to Currys this morning and after the usual sales patter and bargaining, came away with this:
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-...35937-pdt.html
And this Blu-ray player:
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-...81525-pdt.html
I had the young lad set it up and fiddled with it through a TV on movie trailers, different music genres etc. and generally was very impressed. After a bit of negotiation I pretty much only paid £20 for the player too
All set up via two HDMI and one optical cable, lots less clutter and very simple to use.
