ISIS present a real threat to huge swathes of the region. The current Iraqi regime is incapable of dealing with them.

Before the Soviet invasion Afghanistan was a modern, vibrant and liberal country. Enjoying Western decadence and lifestyle. Following the Soviet invasion (America had it's eye on Afghanistan too incidentally) the educated and prosperous elite were forced to flee and seek exile. The remaining Mujahideen with the help from the US saw off the Soviet invasion.
The ensuing power vacuum allowed the Taliban to gain power and the rest is history. Afghanistan receded decades back. This is what happens when a functioning society is destroyed by invasion and war and religious zealots gain power.
Similarly the removal of Saddam Hussein created a vacuum in Iraq and now a load of religious nut jobs are on the rampage. That doesn't bode well for anyone.

Once again I agree with you Maz.
However I still find it odd that the US has sat back and let IS get as big and as strong as it has already. They have been growing in power since the Syrian uprising against Asad which the West initially backed and the US secretly funded allegedly.
Yet they only take action now when IS has already taken hold of huge areas of Iraq and Syria. It seems a bit late to do any thing now. Takes the focus off of Israel though.

I swear one of these days I'm going to start a campaign to have it legally required that any use of the word 'America' is immediately followed by the phrase 'fuck yeah!'.

Totally agree. We can't afford not to get involved, the number of western idiots that have joined this cause is shocking. I would suggest that they pose a real threat to the western world. The last thing we need us them returning home in anything other than body bags.

In fact Obama cannot take the gung-ho approach as Americas would not allow him to put "boots on the ground" which is probably what is needed to establish safe convoys for the poor sods dying on the mountain.

When you get back to skool ask your teacher what "non" means. It's only 3 letters so shouldn't be too difficult.
"A non sequitur (/ˌnɒnˈsɛkwɨtər/; Latin for It does not follow) is a conversational and literary device, often used for comedic purposes. It is something said that, because of its apparent lack of meaning relative to what preceded it,[1] seems absurd to the point of being humorous or confusing.[examples needed]
This use of the term is distinct from the non sequitur in logic, where it is a fallacy."
Clever teacher eh?

I dont normally get to into these sorts of affairs, but I've seen more than enough sickening reports that tell me we SHOULD be getting involved. Along with the U.S, its going to require a heavy handed approach. Surely we cant stand back an allow this situation to grow.
