I've been astounded this week at the willingness of people to openly accept nonsense as fact. The most recent discussion involved aircraft contrails, or as the seemingly more enlightened people called them chemtrails.

I've been woken up to the interesting theory that airliners are routinely spraying us all with chemicals as they pass overhead.

No amount of reasoning or explanation on what forms contrails seems to penetrate their story.

So, what's your take on it?

I need to declare an interest, I'm a weather / flying bore so have a good understanding of the atmospheric conditions and mechanics of contrail / cloud formation but have I been lied to in Uni for 4 years? Are we really being sprayed?

Ah yes

I like the conspiracy theory that there were no weapons of mass destruction when our government told us all categorically that there were.

And all those silly rumours in the papers years ago about Jimmy Saville, Max Clifford, Stuart Hall being sex pests

I accept that there are certain things that those in power would sooner we didn't know, often it's for our own good - for example I would far prefer not to get a four minute warning of being nuked into oblivion - it's just four minutes spent not enjoying what's left of your life. Equally there's every chance that in the fullness of time a contemporary celeb will be exposed for some horrific act.


Back the the contrail thing.

I think I might have actually 'caught' some stupid spending so long trying to explain it to someone. I didn't realise it was contagious but it must be

I even resorted to drawing things to demonstrate pressure differences over a wing but to no avail.

Thankfully I've spent long enough around planes and the library to know what a contrail is but I honestly felt stupider (or perhaps just totally exasperated) after the discussion.

The government loves all these conspiracy theories, as some are so far fetched that they can't surely be true.
Ps our country/planet is not run by elite paedo's.
Gordon brown was never protected by a d-notice.
7/7 wasn't a mi5 setup.
9/11 had nothing what so ever to do with the whitehouse.
No way was the boston marathon bombings a hoax to scare the public.
Of course saddam had WMD.

Next time I see them doing it out where I am i'll take some pics and you can then explain to me why they criss cross the sky in a grid pattern, while I watch them turn over the sea and the SAME two planes come back again.

p.s I'm on a mountain near the sea and regularly see this happen.

You know, we have this big yellow helicopter that flies over our house and it goes into the mountains and over the sea looking for vulnerable and sick people and then it uses a winch to scoop them up and take them to a big building where people in white coats expose them to radiation, stick needles in them and sometimes even sedate them and cut them open. Terrifying...

About as terrifying as people that are brainwashed by the huge media machine, they are brainwashed they just don't know they are,,,a bit like that bloke Bruce Willis in that film, but without the dead people.
That way most are blind to the real world, now that's truly terrifying.
