Algarve Villa
I'll chuck this out there to see if anyone has some specific recommendations.
Thinking of having a family holiday on the Algarve this year, last few weeks of September, as it's our last chance to go off peak before my lad starts school next year.
I've been a couple of times before and really like it but the missus has never been. Stayed in Alvor and Albufeira.
Looking for a villa to rent with two or more bedrooms (double for us, twin for the kids), private pool so the kids can burn themselves out, and it would be nice if it's walking distance to the beach, few shops, restaurants etc. Don't need anywhere lively (been there and done it - "The Strip" in Albufeira) but quite like the Albufeira area as it's fairly central to it all.
Will probably arrange our own flights and have a hire car for the duration rather than a package deal though if the right one can be found we're not averse to it.
Anyone stayed in something similar / care to recommend.
Cheers.

Whenever we go to anywhere in the Med, we always have a villa with pool, and we always use holidaylettings.co.uk or ownersdirect.co.uk and then do the flights and car separately.
Yet to have a bad villa with them, and much cheaper than somewhere like James villas.

I'm going back to Carveiro in the middle of June for the fourth time.
We stay in a 3 bed villa, private pool, sun beds, Sky tv, BBQ, wifi, etc. Only downside is no air-con.
5 minute walk to the town, which is a lovely place. Nice beach, few bars, plenty of restaurants. (Best food I've tasted)
The owner doesn't advertise, just rents to existing clients and recommendations.
Not sure what the prices are, but we are paying about £750 for a week in June
If you are interested I can get the owners email address

Thanks for the suggestions so far, looks like a DIY holiday is the way to go. The wife and I have done the all-inclusive thing in the past, it's great and we may re-visit when the kids get older but for now would prefer the space and freedom that a villa has to offer. Will check out the websites mentioned.
Agree about Alvor, must be nearly 15 years ago when we had a holiday there, was really nice and fairly unspoilt. The beach was huge and amazing. Problem was it wasn't exactly geared to a group of twenty something lads so we ended up getting a taxi into Praia De Roche most nights. I blame my mate for not doing his research properly Now days however it would probably really suit us.
I drove through it when we went to Albufeira more recently (probably nearly 10 years ago!) and it seemed more developed but still had a nice atmosphere.
Hmmm, in a holiday mood now with the sun out, dreaming of quenching my thirst on a cold bottle of Super Bock whilst sunning myself by the pool. Peri-peri chicken for tea.....

Find one, trip advisor it.
i second Holiday lettings, never let me down before (prior to owning our own place) and you can contact a couple for best prices etc before committing.
