What, just leave it then? I'm sure those poor girls don't need that approach either, especially as their own countrymen just sat back and did nothing.

Religion infiltrates where there's poverty though, like a disease .

So far they have only offered £1,000(or equivalent) for their safe release.

Plenty of military external forces have been sent in if reports are to be believed including US and UK 'military officers'. That will be special forces brushing up on their jungle warfare/tracking/surveillance skills then.

The fact these girls have been gone so long doesn't give much hope as to what will have happened to them by now including being trafficked across the borders.

It wouldn't be the first time the SAS/SBS have been used in Nigeria for search and rescue in hostage situations. With such a heavy investment in Nigerian oil the UK and others are always ready to step in and sort out the issues the Nigerians can't handle themselves.

Boko Haram is a major threat to Nigeria and that means a threat to the international interest in the oil fields there. No other African country gets the assistance Nigeria does simply because of the oil there. Being good mates with the richest nation in Africa has many benefits. This situation is one that could heavily backfire on Boko Haram as the international involvement is now likely to escalate and come down far heavier than has happened previously. This lot are potentially another Taliban in the making with ideas of a breakaway Islaminc state and need to be stopped before they get any stronger. Even if the girls get rescued the external forces there are going to be involved now for the long term.

Wishful thinking, Martin.

Hope these children get found unharmed, and the kidnappers get drastic punishment. Seeing that kidnapper shamelessly grinning on telly made my blood boil.

Would Allah really want his followers forcibly converted?

You have to give Boko Haram one thing though. 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' was a darned good song.

Or am I getting confused...?

No, I wasn't attempting to push that notion. I was trying to make the point, perhaps badly, that Allah would surely disapprove of forcible conversion. Wouldn't Allah want people to believe in Him and accept Mohammad as His messenger with all of their mind and heart and body? I find it absurd that Boko Haram can declare that these Christian girls have converted to Islam simply by dressing them in a hijab and compelling them to recite text from the Quran. I'm fairly certain that Allah, being omniscient, isn't fooled.

See how complicated the situation is, the every day people would rather join a gun toting religious mad group than depend on government help for anything at all

Whilst I simpathise for those kidnapped, why does it not supprise me that western powers have again shown more than a passing interest in another oil rich Islamic country. The US are now able to fly military surveillance planes carte blanche over vast areas of Nigerian's airspace. Won't be long before we get a US/UK "international" task force on Nigerian soil to not only locate the kidnappers but also to "irradicate" this what will be labeled an "extreme terrorist" organisation. I could be wrong but let's see how this unravels.....

Ok, I don't doubt you so I stand corrected! But in some consensus' it's 50% Islamic too. May be I should re-phrase it to to a country of mixed religion with hostile extreme Islamics....after all, history has shown that's all it takes for military action.

There was mention of Islam and some derogatory attitude towards the "west" and hey presto they've got an "invite" ..they certainly don't need the gas, but they'd love some involvement ( within 50 years Nigerian economy will be bigger than theres )

So you'd be opposed to an attempted extirpation of said Islamists?

They are Africa's version of the Taliban and although currently much less potent and small time they have the aspirations and the potential to cause great conflict within that area of Africa.

As usual Africa itself fails to deal with the situation and it is left to countries outside of their continent to sort out a very serious threat to stability in the region. Until the leaders of African nations stop sitting on their fat ar$es getting richer every day by personally pocketing their nation's wealth whilst their populations get poorer nothing will ever change.

Nowhere in the World does anybody need another Islamic extremist group on the scale of the Taliban so if Nigeria won't deal with it internally then others will have to step in and do it for them before it's too late - as shown by them not dealing with these poor girls abduction by these terrorists and getting in outside help.
