Coop - can any of you clever city business types explain?

Coop - can any of you clever city business types explain?
So the Coop is in a complete mess with a 2.5 billion black hole. So is this amount actually a loan that they have to pay interest on or what?
Do they need this money to keep going and, if so, who will want to put money into a company with such an appalling track record and no credible restructuring plan or a board of directors that knows its collective **** from its elbow? Plus a load of smaller Coop groups with no business acumen and a wish to keep their noses in the trough.
Or are they beyond rescue and, if they go under, who loses?

And thank Christ for that. I live in a Village (albeit with a Sainsburys) but the Co-Op opening times and days and the stock they have for such a little store is great. Its always chokka and would be sadly missed so glad that's exactly what they want to focus on.......
