So the old Homebase job I had is completely knackered, shouldn't have left it outside all winter although it was covered, but it wasn't in a good place last year. The burner and most of the rest of it is well rusted and not salvageable.

Recommendations for a new one please, gas jobby, as the season of outdoor burning stuff will soon be upon us Don't want a long debate about how charcoal is better, I know it is, but prefer to convenience of gas for day to day use.

Looking at the Weber range, obviously built to last, top quality, but with a price tag to match. If they really are the best then maybe I'll splash out and if so which on to go for? Are there other makes that are as good or better (and maybe cheaper?).

Two things;

1. Charcoal BBQ is much much better

And

2. Weber. Always Weber.

Bought my Weber BBQ last year after reading the recommendations on here and it's great, it got a lot of use and is still like new. Quality is spot on too, really well made.

Outback.

And for when its raining; a cast iron griddle pan on the gas hob (£15 on amazon )...but you'll need to spend £200 on a 1500m3 extractor fan

Nope I haven't but I did read up on them before I got my Weber BBQ. Quite mixed reviews on it on a BBQ forum, yes apparently they do exist haha, generally good but a lot of people said they had quality issues, parts not fitting properly and needing to be modified etc.

+1 for Outback. We've got one of their full sized charcoal ones, which sadly they don't make any more, but it lives outdoors all year round and it's still perfectly OK. It's about 8 years old now.

Hmmm, mine went together perfectly. I'd say it was very good quality

Errr thanks for all the helpful suggestions so far, I think

Weber or Outback it would seem to be then.

The charcoal one linked looks cool:

Always fancied an offset smoker like that - perfect for doing ribs, whole chickens, pork joints... I'm hungry now!

You need to try the ribs and pork shoulder with Meathead's Memphis Dust - beautiful. The Big Bad Beef Rub on short ribs and brisket is also fantastic.

Can't wait to get myself a new Pro Q Excel 20 smoker

I'm really pleased. I just got a call telling me that my Pro Q is on it's way. Stock wasn't expected in until June, however it should be with me by Tuesday. The boys at Mac's BBQ are also throwing in a couple of bags of flavoured wood chips and a barbecue mit to go with it. Excellent stuff.

I'm thinking of getting one of their cold smoke generators, so I can start smoking my own bacon (amongst other items), too.

Always used one of those Australian ones - Outback? Two gas rings with ancillary burner on side which I hardly ever used. Cheap really and lasted around 5 years staying outside with a good cover (pond liner) over. Cleaned up nicely in Spring and a quick light to chase the winter spiders out

Key thing was a lid so burgers and stuff were actually cooked with lid over and then grilled quickly with lid up. Kept warm on back shelf and bottle of red hidden below. Bought a spit roast attachment but this didn't work too well as motor too close to rings and overheated.

Managed to cook for half a dozen guests with well cooked and hot food with more keeping warm on machine.

Oh and used in all weathers!

Decided I "need" one of these bad boys:

Is spending over £1k on a BBQ a bit excessive though? Need to justify to wife
