Default How to locate my old car?

I'm trying to find my old car, is there any way this can be done i.e. to find the current owner/location? I've done the common 'free' checks such as DVLA's vehicle enquiry but is there any way to dig deeper?

I think the searches are logged, pretty sure one of the coppers on here said this was a no no.

Speak to a car dealer as there used to be a full comprehensive HPI check that could be carried out and it would bring up current owners name and address

A friend did this and got his cheque sent back and told categorically NO by the DVLA, they would not even contact the owner on his behalf either
