Cheers Scooberator for a top day out.
I'm well impressed with the 240bhp mine produced.

Richard,
Many thanks for organising the day, it's the first time I've been on the rolling road. The guys at John Noble did a great job. No figures for the Evo 6 !!

Thanks for organising the day Richard. If you are organising another let me know and I'll be there hopefully having solved the problem.

I did enjoy it, although I'm not an happy bunny with the results and will be speaking to my dealer Monday.

See this thread for thoughts on what the problem may be http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?ThreadID=72851&Page=1

salsa

They said mine was running great for a standard my98 with no mods and 100,000 miles ... boost was 0.8 constant. It's running optimax.

Never been to an RR day before but am happy with the results from my supposed 208bhp car!

Does anyone know if the boost should be more than 0.8??

Cheers

Question

Sounds like Catflap was also surprised at low figures.

Do you guys think the fugures got lower towards the end and is there an argument for a free run for the last 2 or so? The Cossie was 15th was he happy? (I was 16th, Catflap 17th).

Lightbulb

My figures where slighty up on standard for a uk00 which fits in with the filter and backbox as the only mods I have got. Boost was fine and it was running slight too rich. The car hasn't really loosened up yet at 16k so I would suggest the RR was fairly accurate.

But I would be quite happy to say I think I should have 240 bhp

Rich's car made a cracking bhp if all the others are low does that make his higher !!!!!!!

No it would not make his car higher, it would simply indicate that there were inaccurate readings on some cars, notably the last ones.

I would indeed like another run as i dont think my car runs at 235 and 209 t,, as i have compared it to others (typically a wrx today in fact with no cats and a blitz induction kit and upped boost, and i was clearly faster, up to 70 mph)

Problem is i cant afford the 45 notes plus vat, this will mean to get an accurate result i will have paid almost 100 notes

Dont get me wrong, if thats what my car is, then so be it (just means i have a provbem with somehting) but it would be easery to get another test first, before i start spending money trying to figure it out.

The RR day was very important to me, to see if my car is runing as i expected...it was not.

A) my car has a problem.. its cool ill fix
B) the RR has a problem.. Id like another Test

And thanx again to rich for the day

last Feb i went to Well Lane Turbo Centre RR day! (Evo v Scooby shoot out)
my MY97- Magnex Back Box, Magnex Centre pipe (resonator on it) and K&N air induction.....running Unleaded NOT SUL!
got 230bhp with 214 torque!!
MY97 were 208 bhp! so i was happy seeing that my boost was peekin at 12psi and leveling at 9psi (it should keep 12)

mid year last year
but at Power Engineering
same car but Striaght through Stainless Steel Magnex cntrepipe (without the resantor) ran on SUL (only 4 that day)
235bhp and 215 torque!! *BOOST was keeping 12psi this time*

i feel both these figures are about right.

i'm thinking about going to Noble, but don't want to find my car NOW with a ITG panel filter instead of the K&N induction PLUS a de-cat ScoobySport Downpipe (should give an extra 20bhp-40 lb/torque) only gives 240bhp!! it should on paper be 250+bhp and 230-40+ish Torque)

a standard Turbo RUN-IN scoob i would have thought should give at least 220bhp as it stands!
if your car has had a poor bhp, get it checked..it mybe losing boost somewhere......craigamungos had that problem at Well Lane..his STiWRX should have given 300bhp easily (his car is so quick...but only gave 268bhp cus his boost was only hitting 9psi!!!!

Thanx sala, but i did ask them and they said boost was fine, .9 bar.

Could be geting a Blitz blue boost gage tonight if my mate calls me, if not ill be getting one asap.

Give me your opinion what woudlyou say a my uk 99 with no centre cat (resinator) and back box (all 2.5 inch) with k&n filter. run on optimax give

I figured 240-245 not 235 (but its the low torque that worries me)

Catflap if you paid £45 for the rolling road that means you paid £10 more.
When was the last time the car was serviced.
Did you check your oil+water
Are all your hoses tight.
Might be an idea to get somebody to check everything.
You also travelled from stoke and more or less went straight on the rollers, maybe it was a little too hot.

Salsa king why would a standard uk turbo have more than 215 bhp if it was standard. These are subaru figures .
I know there are quicker ones out there but the figures dont show that they are reading wrong.
D cooper had a new ecu fitted which will be the difference on his car. I saw his car in December at John Noble and he got over 300 bhp.

I went to a RR Day at John Noble in December with a lot of well known people on this board , all of them seemed happy with the results. One guy with a P1 said he got 310 bhp @PE but he said it must of been too high, he got 290 @John Noble. Also an Escort Cosworth went on the rollers which should of been 500bhp+ and came out @513bhp.

John Noble has a brand new up to date rolling road and says it is very accurate but all RR Days are a bit of a myth.

The best thing to do if you are thinking about tuning your car is to stick to the same rolling road everytime.
You should be able to see the difference`s then.

Thanks again lads for a good day.

The thought had crossed my mind, about it being a little hot (i did drive it a little , um spirited to get there)

I had it serviced 4k ago.

I only paid 35, and thought it was a very good price, ( i was reering to the 45+vat for normal) we got a good deal.

Followed you a little way home mate hehe your car pulls nice

Still confused about the low torque more than anything, but ill be puting some more stuff on it, and ill be back on the rollers in a few months.

Question

Catflap,

I'm also concerned with the low torgue. It it a coincendence that I was 16th and you 17th and we noth got much lower torque than expected?

I will go back to JN's though. I'm sure his kit is good and I may have a problem.

I was quite happy with the 240bhp @ 220lbf-ft that my MY99 uk turbo produced.
That was with only a K&N element and a Scoobymania 3" bore backbox.

The only other considerations are that :

A. My boost peaks at 15psi and then levels out and stays at 14psi all the way to about 5500 rpm.

B. I run Optimax (guarented to be no less than 98ron) and Millers Octane booster that is said to give an estimated 2ron extra. So, i was in therory running at least 100 ron petrol.

Bearing in mind my petrol and boost levels, i would say the rolling road was about right.

the only issue i had on the day was my air temperature reading, it read 36 degrees, alot higher than the other runs.
If i had noticed that straight away, i should have asked for another run, while trying to get a lot more cold air in.

Kevin

Not best pleased with my 268bhp. did have that little miss fire half way though and a blowing manifold. Oh yes and the CHECK ENGINE light come on in the middle of the run!!!!

Apart from that a good day! Nice butty shop across the way too!!!

Had a good run home with Pat, M1 junction was closed so went via Mansfield and Clumber Park...fast roads round there.

See you all soon.

Oh any ideas of best place to get the fault code out of the ecu so i know what the engine is winging about!!

any dealer will be able to plug your car into a laptop and then give an answer to what the fault code was.

In therory....

Myself and Steve Emery took the mansfeild was home, your right, bloody fast roads.

I think when RRs are more on the "conservative" side, people tend to be disappointed.

You can't compare a result from PE to Well Lane to Nobles etc.

It's been said many many times before. Don't take the results as gospel, just use them to compare on the day.

And if a car has 10lb ft less than another, but on road it's as quick, you need to check the shape of the graphs.

And if you're car has "only" got 210/200, but it's as quick as you'd expect, what's the problem?

It's just down to ego's

I dont think its a problem with ego, i think its due to the time and effort we have spent on the cars to no factual gain.

If i spend 500 notes on it, i expected to see some return, when i dont, i am curious?

Is the equipment purchased faulty? is my case faulty, or is the road faulty?

Scientifically, look for the common denominator, if all cars on the day were fine bar 1, then we could say that car was at fault. if may cars on the day were low, it gets a little more complicated, a combination car/RR could be the result of a combination.

Do not think for one minute that we are on RR to brag and show off about or powerful peins substitutes, NO we are there to ensure the money we have spent on them tuning them has been beneficial, nothing more, nothing less.

Hence the series of debate afterwards, people searching for every avenue of reason as to thy their results are the way they are, this is simply scientific minds at work

AS for feeling a cars swiftness, it is a very subjective method of determining its performance, after a new part has been purchased or a new modification done, it may change a cars characteristics, and give us the illusion of being faster, when possibly if is only marginally faster or some times not at all. (what I expect with my own zaust)

Kev, ahhh i did not know you were running oc booster, seems you had a little more boost than me as well, that would explain the figures there

Don’t mistake peoples enquiring minds, for grumbling, its how we learn

Look forward to the next day

catflap

i would say saturday was fairly accurate.
bearing in mind the UK MY99 turbo is 215bhp standard.
to get an extra 15bhp from just a backbox and filter is about right.
between 5 and 10bhp for decat.

but then there are the variables like :

bore of exhaust pipe, mine is 3" compared to the majority that are 2.5"
temperature on the day.
petrol
boost
tyre pressures.

the list is endless.

i was expecting more than 240bhp, i had been comparing my mods to the Power Engineering results in the Dyno section. There results are definatley higher.

Kevin
