Si I think moderators can delete posts completely, so when a meet has gon by it is simply removed. Just thought of a nother benefit of emial notification, ie. when a new meet is entered in the diary everyone gets an email .
Si this is just high level info for the passing browser more detailed info will still need to be put in the main thread.
Also one up on the other areas

As most of these thread seem to go into 10+pages is it worth having a diary thread which shows venue/time ect and thats it. It means you can check the midland diary and see all the latest meets. When a meet has happened the person who posted the meet can edit their post and remove the details. It means you can skip to the last page and see all the latest threads. Just an idea which may save me 2 hours reading through a 50 page special

Why not structure it like the Coventry Area meet that I organise.
Place as much info in the first thread as possible.
Once enough info has changed update the first thread with the changes
Therefore keeping all the latest info on the first thread. I am aware that you can only edit the first post a certain number of times but if structured correctly it never fails.
I usually post a time and date 2-3 weeks before the event then let people decide on a venue, once the venue is posted I update with multimap links and list of attendees. The only other thing to change then is attendees and last min changes which all happen at the last min.
Wade through all the dross in the Cov area meet and you find all the latest info on the very first thread.
Hope this helps

NM You seem to start well by having the Date/Venue in the thread title, shame others cannot do the same.
You do not several have muppets posting multiple threads with similar titles at almost weekly intervals to meets that no-one ever turns up to anyway!
Then muppets who post up 'when is the next meet?' rather than reading the thread titles!
Most threads do contain all the info in the first post (which most people cannot be bothered to read!) but, thanks to the 'upgraded' software you only have 3 edits you can make to this.
One day someone might invent some BBS software that allows the thread originator to edit the thread title!

Just easier to read one thread with all the meets in rather than 20 which some talk about the same one if pushed for time. How many times hve we heard "oh just spotted this too late now", after 10 pages "what time is it and where ?"
Should be simple and they all should follow the same format eg. :
WHERE : COVENTRY, The Kings Head Public House
DATE : 32nd October 2002
TIME : 7.30pm
LINK TO DISCUSS MEET : [ url ] www. scoobynet........ [ / url ]
Thats all it need and you can discuss in the link thread. If the diary thread can be created to have a date on like 31-dec-2050 then it will stay at the top as well .

BTTT so Paul can spot it, maybe I should use the "report it to a moderator" button or does cause flashing red lights and defcon 1 lights come on at Scoobynet HQ .

BTW surely if this diary was still as a normal thread & stayed top kuz of wotever date u would still have meets that may of long surpassed on the top of the 1st post & even if this was edited 2 nowt when it had taken place then even so every 20 meets yer on a new page & so surely still end going thru page after page, i shud still think it is down 2 each meet 2 make the relevant info as obvious as possible both in titla & 1st thread just IMHO of course but a diary sounds flawed in the context of the current scoobynet thread set up

Like I said I am quite prepared to keep the diary upto date and removed unwanted posts and past meets but obviously I would need access to edit and delete on that thread. Dont know how feasible that is maybe a question for SDB.

Sean cheers for the update on Paul, no problem as we all have lives outside scoobynet and no rush just thought with the scoobynet push towards local meets and more community spirit it might be a nice idea.

Can do, but the idea of deleting posts on a thread just to maintain a "snipped and clean" view of things doesn't sound that good.
A lot of maintenance and after so many deletion of posts, how would that affect the software?
Personally I think that giving precise titles and details in the inital post of a meet would be sufficient.
It won't hurt to discuss it with other mods though
