Default My new BBS forged wheels

I've wanted a set of the BBS forged gold wheels that came as an option on the JDM STI/Spec C but apparently these are like rocking horse poo.

A new set goes for shocking amount of cash (approx over 2,000GBP!), so i've looked about for a decent set of used. Nothing really came up until last week. This came up on Japanparts' Facebook page :http://page14.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/j...ion/s328399272

Well, although it's an auction site, but I can't really offer or bid for anything lower than the asking price. It's certainly cheaper than another set I came across previously, and in better condition too.

I prefer getting such parts from Japan as we all know, most of the cars there have relatively low mileage and the roads in Japan are generally in a good state. A better chance of getting something in good condition IMO.

Pics from the above link:

Wheels are on their way from Japan.

..........And so it happens, my birthday is just round the corner. Makes for a good gift to myself i think.

More pics when they arrive.

Cheers!
Errol

Very nice wheels and rare.
Did you bid on the auction yourself or did japanparts did the bidding for you?
How does it work buying second hand things from japanese auctions?

Thanks.

No I did not. Yahoo Japan's auction site is only meant for Japan domestic use. Or at least that's what I was told.

Japanparts did the bidding for me. Like I said, that was a "buy at this price" auction so you can't offer anything lower.

Japanparts started this 'purchase service' to allow us to buy stuff from their Japanese auction sites.

You tell them which item you want to bid for
Enter bid price or buy price
Japanparts charge you a service fee
You pay through paypal
Item arrives at Japanparts
Japanparts quote you shipping to your country
You pay again through paypal or credit card
They forward item to you.

Full details here: http://www.japanparts.com/forwardingsummary/index.html

The only disadvantage is, you end up paying a bit more than the auction price as it all adds up, but I suppose they need to earn something.

You're obviously not a Subaru nerd like some of us are.

Standard STI Enkei

BBS option (although this is the 100pcd one, the 114.3 version looks the same)

Bad news people! Bad news!

Received the wheels in 4 Enkei boxes packed very nicely with bubble wrap and all.

Was overjoyed when i pull out the 1st rim.... Condition was better than i was expecting! A few small chips (as shown in the auction pictures), no pitting on the wheels, looks really good to be honest. Doesn't look like it has be refurbed before. Sort of confirmed my thoughts that these JDM parts are often from cars with very low mileage and from owners who actually bother about keeping their cars clean.

2nd rim.... All good. Same as above.

3rd rim......Hmmm. Looks like it has been given a coat of lacquer over the face of the rim. The insides look to have been slightly sprayed over as well. What about the inside flange? Hmmm.....The lip on the inside flange as been machined over. At this point i was a bit suspicious.....

4th rim.... All good. Same as the other 3 good ones.

I thought i get my tyre shop check it through before i give my judgement.

......When i saw the rim spin on the wheel balancer, my heart sank...followed by "Oh F*ck!"....Turns out, that 3rd rim is bent!! Fairly significantly in fact!

I'll upload a video to show, but when it's spun on the balancing machine, you can see the rim is obviously out of shape!

Now i have read that seller's description and terms. It says "no returns accepted", but it also states "there is no large wound to be worried about either" (which i believe is translated from "no major damage"). A this point, i felt cheated!

I'm not sure what's the best course of action now, as my payment through paypal has already been processed.

Any idea?

Regards
Pi$$ed and disappointed Errol

Raise a dispute that the item isn't as described?

I'd be one seriously maaaad ****.

Seems to be quite a common issue with wheels though...

If get back in touch with japanparts Errol as that was who dealt with the transaction, I would forward them a video if possible and see what they come back with, After taking so long to find a set and this happens I'd be pi$$ed too mate, good luck, It's possible it might be able to be straightened but that's not the point IMO, Unless there was a significant refund/allowance to compensate.

Yeah, that's probably what i'm going to be next. The thing is although the descriptions were in Japanese, but i got it google translated, and it did say "there is no large wound to worry about". This is certainly not a small kerbing damage. The damaged area extends further than the flange area.

That's what i had in mind too Gaz. Japanparts will be getting an email from me tomorrow morning together with the video.

Like you said, whether or not it's repairable, it should have been made known to me from the beginning.

Frankly, i doubt a rim can be the same once it's bent.

Will update you guys again.

Regards
Errol

Gutted! Nice rims, hope you get something sorted.

PayPal dispute is all but useless when the item is bought and paid for outside of eBay because they have no idea what the original advert stated. I'm speaking from experience and it was dealing with an SN member too!

That's a real shame and always a risk when buying second hand wheels.
I bought 17" STi wheels from a member on here a long time ago and they had flat spots.
Of course the seller claimed to know nothing about it...
After getting them professionally repaired it would have cost me the same to buy new aftermarkt wheels.
