Cool My V4 Impreza STi Type R

Hey folks,

I have always fancied a classic since I was very young, although I was always under the belief that insurance costs were going to be insane and when they did actually come out at a respectable price most of them will be rotten and extremely hard to find a clean one (I suppose they are now actually).

So after turning 21 and finding out I can now insure and import and a classic Impreza. The hunt was on for a clean Type R / RA. Found a few I was interested in, although they were either over priced or just plain rotten.
Then a friend of a friend who had 5 Evos and 2 Imprezas needing to sell up for more space. When I heard he had the Type R I jumped on the chance to buy it - and here I am now!
Car is a 1997 imported in 2009. Car is fresh, absolutely no rust both outside and underneath. Had an engine rebuild upon entering the country also.

Full spec of car off the top of my head is as follows :

New Crank and Crank case
ARP Head bolts/studs
Uprated headgaskets

RCM Air Filter
RCM Red Pulleys
Walbro 255 'stage 2' fuel pump
Equal length manifold
Custom exhaust w/sports cat
Tein Springs w/ KYB Shocks all round
Exedy pink clutch

So enough blabbing on heres some photos.

When I first got it (very dirty)

Cleaning time

Clean photos

Cairn O' Mount @ 5AM

And the Type R met a fully stripped and caged TD05'd 400bhp ready to roll Type RA. Crazy car!

And just the weekend just past, enjoying the nice sunny weather Scotland offered us for once.

So thats about it so far with pics and stuff.
If some of you notice the V4 front lip is missing is because I took it off, due to one side being missing when I bought the car. Ideally when I get the lip on ill have both front and rear bumpers sprayed (not that it needs them but im fussy).
Also want bigger wheels like ST2s or TE37s. Bigger brakes for sure as not impressed with the standard ones and most importantly Power FC and map for UK fuel first!

Thanks for looking.

Kyle.

Thanks guys. Still undecided what to do with the front end.

Choices are original V4 three piece lip.
V5/6 bumper with a lip of some sort?
Or STi sport / 22b narrow bumper. (Also unsure where to get one)

Any ideas?

Looks stunning chap, you're a lucky boy.

Id forget the power fc if im honest, old hat now and for what they cost theres better options out there.
I'd probably go with ESL if you don't want to stretch to Alcatek or better still, syvecs.

Ive possibly got my hands on a genuine full v4 lip kit for 50 good ones but ill see.
Only reason id be after Power FC is its all im really needing. Not after crazy power. Just want a good B road car with around 330bhp. If it gets out of hand then I'd defo look into other ECUs.

Go ESL, theres no need to change your ecu.

http://www.enduringsolutions.com/

Better option than PFC and cheaper too. Speak to your mapper about it. PFC are old now.

Admittedly it does look quite good. Unfortunately, Ive commited to buy a Power FC & AVCR already haha. Im sure it will still do the job nicely.

Got the car up on a ramp at work on saturday. Its bloody clean underneath, absolutely no rust whatsoever. Im still surprised. Will get some photos up.

Looks good man. And have to love tha Cairn 'O Mount. I've only been over it once singe I got my Type 20 and it was on about the wetest day of the year and a week after I got the car so I wasn't really too sure about pushing it (a pretty big sideways moment not far from Fettercairn saw me taking it quite easy afterwords!). Need to get out there in the dry sometime soon as it's an epic drive.

Where's the quarry by the way? I'm sure I recognise it but can't think where it is!

Cairn is good but have to watch especially when its good weather because bikers like that road and often cut the corners!

Quarry is Craiglash behind torphins on your way to kincardine o'neil. Where in the deen are you from? Colour of Type 20 you got?

Yeah the bikers are mad at times. Driving over there in a 911 a few months back I had one biker on my side of the road and leaning to the extent he came within a few inches of having his head taken off on the A-pillar. Madness.

I'm near the town centre. The car is blue and plate starts RK54 so give me a wave if you see me about anytime/

Such a lovely car, I love Classics in white and yours looks inmaculate.

Everytime I see a Classic with stock rims I remember I have to take mines back!

Cheers!

Few updates.

Apexi Power FC (still requires proper remap)
V7/8 STi wheels

Have a little issue with gearing now. Stuck in 3rd gear and the gearstick has gone all floppy. In process of getting box out. If it is the box anyone know of any replacement boxes for sale - TY752VB5CA is the code iirc
Once the box issue is sorted probably get some new tyres and sort the front end out not sure if to facelift still or go 22b replica (if you get good quality ones) or prefacelift with 3 piece splitter. Also trying to get my hands on a genuine V5/6 spoiler.

Stick to what it should be buddy ! If you don't have thousands to throw at it. Pm me if you can't locate the box you need.

22B narrow bumpers can be bought as they were made by Subaru themselves however I've only found them avalaible in Japan and the same goes for OEM 3 piece splitter.

Mine has the extendde 5th gear and it makes a hell of a difference when enjoying a spirited drive or motorway cruising.
