Looks like a great fun road to drive
are the speeding laws different over there? as national speed limit on that type of road would be 60, its properly just me being dumb again

The national speed limit on The Island is unlimited.
However, if you do so and are driving like a **** (I'd better add that's not aimed at the OP - I enjoyed the ride, thanks), they'll deal with you far more severely than they will in the UK. And you do 30 in the 30s. Not 31, or you'll be fined.
The Mountain Road is derestricted, but if you aren't familiar with it, it's a highly dangerous place to go particularly fast. Despite being one way, it's often closed during the TT due to idiots with more speed than talent.
And as to going over for Practice Week (in a car), no problem, as long as you booked your ferry and accommodation last June (like we did....)

There is no national speed limit. Most roads now have a limit ie 30 or 50, but as soon as you see that national speed limit sign then it's flat out.

For those unfamiliar with what it looks like from a bike during the TT in June, here's a full 37.73 mile lap (in 17 minutes 33 seconds) with Ian Hutchinson:

The mountain is not one way, its only one way during Mad Sunday. During the TT or any other time you can legally be doing 140 and come around a corner to meet a van trying to pass a old couple in a fiesta.

Sorry, you're quite right. I should have said 'despite being made one-way during the TT fortnight...' For safety, they do make it one way for the whole two weeks these days, not just Mad Sunday.
It is indeed a normal two way road for most of the rest of the year though. Apologies for any confusion caused.

We'll be over in the Isle of Man in July for the Southern100 races. Taking the scoobe too, it'd be rude not to have a trip over the mountain from Ramsey ;-)

cracking video. i lived over there between 02 - 04, many a lark across the mountain road, though i only had a mk2 golf 16v at the time!
anytime anyone else is ever over, i suggest heading off down the sulby stage (A14) you get to it by hanging a right at the top of the mountain just after the tramlines.

The daft thing is, the Subaru laps in 2011 were promoted as purely demonstration runs. There was no mention of the record being attempted.
There's still occasional discussion now on the IOMTT forum about what will happen if a car loses it in an area with a lot of spectators. The laps aren't very popular with many of the TT visitors and marshalls (although this visitor quite enjoyed it at the time.)
I'm waiting to see what we get this year. I just hope it stays dry for once.
