Default Red Classic Impreza Sport

Hi there,

Not that long ago I got myself my childhood dream car - Impreza. I had it for couple of weeks and it starts to look like a car now. I know it's probably one of the least exciting threads on the forum as it's just an 1996 2.0L N/A Sport but I thought I will share it with you anyway. Considering my very limited budget it will also be the slowest project on this forum ever involving a lot of duct tape and DIY skills

So here it is when I first got it:

After some time on eBay and tinkering around the car here's how it stands now:

Thanks!

Tom

Thanks!

I will, as much as my funds allow.

Any suggestions or ideas about what can you do to make it better? Bare in mind that the name of the game is 'bang for buck'

Lovely, clean looking sport you've got there. My first impreza was a T plate sport in that exact colour
Here's a list of mods for you........

Lowering springs
Change the alloys (black or gunmetal looks good with red)
Colour code the door handles, skirts and mirrors

That should keep you occupied for a while. Welcome to the money pit

Looks good, better to learn on something simpler like a sport than trying to cut your teeth on a turbo

To be honest I have got a foot long list of things I would like to get for my Sport and WRX struts with short springs is somewhere on it

I like those alloys to be honest. If I find them to tatty after a while I will get them powder coated white probably. I'm not a massive fan of black wheels on red car.

I think I will also leave spats and skirts matte black but I really want to get JUN style front splitter for it and import aluminum type r bonnet.

Also I'm thinking about changing seats, but not sure yet if I want to go cheap and easy (Turbo 2000/WRX seats) or all out and get some fixed buckets. But I think I will go for comfier ones as I plan traveling across the Europe in my Sport couple of times next year (Italy, Poland, France maybe) and I think my **** will fall off if I do that in a fixed bucket seat o_o

I also quite fancy a set of Gauges (Oil Temp, Oil Pressure and Water temp) in green/red. I know they are mostly a light show but I always fancied those Probably will get them mounted in a glove box for super stealthiness

However, I have just found fresh(ish) doors in my color (559 red - FML it's hard to find) to replace my dented ones and I'm getting WRX steering wheel (I think it's WRX - it's the 4 spoko SRS Momo wheel with silver center). Also a fancy JDM shift **** is in the post and I have booked garage to get my boot and other little stuff sorted so hopefully in next 2 weeks it will be all nice and tight

So yeah, that's that. I will put pics up if anything interesting (at least for me) happens

Cheers,

Tom

I think body kit wise it will stay as it is now but I want JUN style splitter for it. For interior it has an import 4 spoke MOMO wheel now and I will put set of gauges in and front WRX seats.

Other than that I want to bring it back to it's top shape. Next jobs on my list are sorting steering wheel play and getting the paintwork neat.

Ok, long time no updates on my little N/A scooby, but finally... Here's how it looks like now:

Sorry for a poor photo quality. I will get some proper shots done soon

edit: actually I have got UK Turbo front seats now as well, so the interior shot is a little out of date now.

Thanks mate!

I don't give a **** if people think it's not a proper Impreza to be fair. It's a Subaru, it's AWD, it grips like a **** to the carpet, it sounds lovely and most importantly it's mine and I have bought, repaired, modified, taxed and insured it myself with my own hard earned money which I didn't find easy, especially when you're completely independent since 19 years of age. I'm proud of it

I don't mind that I drive probably one of the slowest Imprezas around, I'm not in a rush anyway. I love my car! On the other hand I have some power mods in mind already so... It's even better that it's a sport it might surprise couple of people

My view exactly! It's a nice car mate. And I'll keep an eye on this thread, wouldn't mind knowing what you're going to do power wise... I'm looking to do some things to my sport too.

Power wise I have got couple of things in mind like:

1. Run a low boost turbo system (5-6psi) based on second hand WRX/UK Turbo parts + some custom exhaust mods

or

2. Run a low boost supercharger system (also 5-6psi) but it might be a bit difficult to get all the brackets for tensioners etc. done.

or

3. Swap a 2.5L N/A off legacy // do 2.5L swap and keep 2.0 heads

or

4. Put worked 1.6 heads on it

or

5. Keep it as it is, fix it up nicely, drive it for couple of years and save up for new age WRX or classic STi and use my sport as a daily, which is probably the most sensible option tbf...

Thanks mate, I love the colour too. I just wish that the paintowork was in a better shape because it's hard to come by panels in 559 red...

Thank you. Now the car has got the shape I wanted it to have. There's just the fixing bit left which is: rear bearings, cv joints, oil leaking all over exhaust manifold, leaky boot and check engine warning light comming on and off... I don't even want to start on paintwork and costs of respraying.

I will be super happy when I get all of that done mate

Looks good. Yes a WRX/STI is 'better', but if you're happy with it then all is good. I'd not bother trying to get more power, it's not easy on a Sport. Instead try to improve the handling and then in a year or two get a turbo.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. The only problem I have with the Sport is that it's sort of in between, misfit car. It's too slow to keep it as a weekend weapon and it's to thirsty to keep it as a daily. It was good for longer journeys with it's comfy soft suspension but now with coilovers dropped pretty much all the way down to the deck it's a rather harsh ride. Also it won't keep any value as a classic car because it's not. I think I will drive it as long as it takes me to save up money and NCB for a WRX/STi to be fair.

On the other hand I think it will take me a while to push my Sport to it's limits anyway. In straight line I will loose to most of the cars but I think I can catch up with pretty much anything around the corners. Impreza N/A with new age 4 pot brakes really does stop quickly, so it's easy to catch up on braking and also because it's so low now it goes around the corners like a train on tracks. Honestly, I have tryied everything that made my car go very sideways with previous set up and I don't even get tire squeel or nothing. It just turns. The difference is just ridiculous, like the corners I took in 45-50mph going on the edge of grip now I do in 65-70mph with loads of headroom.... My point is, I'm not a big fan of lunching the guts out of my gearbox, popping the flames out the back of my car on local maccies car park, I'm not into scene thing (why would you make such a fun car a carpark queen. 1.4 civics are for that not Scoobies :S) or drag racing. I just love to have fun in car on quiet B roads. And for that it's just perfect. I have still got loads to learn before I actually outperform this car as a driver.

Just my 2p

I like that fella. My first Scoob was a sport, in white.

I'm not keen on the big black splitter though, needs to be red or not so intrusive on the front bumper. And would personally keep it real with a sport bonnet.

My last Impreza was 559 red
