Default Blacked out headlights

Went down to Will's (Wiley) today and he blacked out our headlights.
It's a mod that I've always wanted to do, but put off because I didn't have the ***** to stick the lights in the oven in case I c*cked it up.

Happy with how it's turned out, totally changes the front end... looks more aggressive now.
If anyone wants it done, highly recommend slipping a couple of notes to Wiley because he did a great job on them.

Took about 30 minutes to take the grill and bumper off because the clips were so stiff.

In the oven for 10 minutes

3-4 coats of satin black paint later

Reassembled

First one refitted

Before

After

Wiley's car

All in all, I think it took about 3 hours per pair including removal and refitting the lights.
If anyone wants them done in Essex, give Wiley a shout.
Think he's done bugeye lights as well.
Also thanks to Scott.T's very detailed write up, as it helped alot.

Chrome is a tw@t to paint over tubbs, your best bet is a good etch primer

Yeah because it was plastic Wiley just sprayed straight onto the reflector.
Even with the first coat, the paint stuck on well.
Just make sure to clean the reflector beforehand and use something like satin black Plasti-kote.

Fair play totally transformes the front of the car

Flattened mine back TT with some wet and dry, the chrome came of rather easy back to the black under neath, stuck the reflectors in the oven for a few mins to get some heat in to them, then painted 3 coats of paint on, popping them back in the oven each time between coats for a few mins, they came out spot on in all fairness, probably my favourite mod to be honest, gave the car a much firmer agressive look, im gonna have to do them on my new one now tho, will look nice and fresh on the front now with the new zunsport grills

Tubby - dead easy to do on our blob eyes fella - I gave mine a quick rub over for a cut couple coats of plastic primer and then matt black - think the primer is a must..

D.O.M - looks sweet pal - much better

no more than 70, at 100 you could not keep it in hands when split
70 is safe for lights to

How do you re-attach the lense to the deadlamp, do you just reheat it and use the mastic thats on the unit?

Exactly right there. Once all sprayed and pushed tight, stick back in oven for another 5-8 mins and push back on while screwing the screws back on

Just for safety you may also might want to just go round with a fine line of more glue, to avoid condensation issues.

Be vary carefully of ovens as electric one do the job quicker as gas ovens take longer, so make sure you know your oven well.

P.s the look ace on the white hawk, and blue of course.

No worries guy's glad it helped.
My Hawkeye has gone now and unfortunatley when it left me the dealer had a knock and damaged one light. So it looks like when it goes up for sale it won't have the tints.

If you put them back in the oven for about 7 mins to soften up the glue before re-assembly they seal up well. I had no issues and ran them right through this last winter and it got plenty of washes and snow foams over that period too.
