my classic impreza in bangkok, thailand

yeah 11 thousand british pounds! (the exchange rate is really poor now) when i was looking i found classics ranging from 9 - 15 grand
the used car market here is crazy and any new car imported is subject to a 100% luxury goods tax, so i think when new this would have cost about 50000 to 60000 gbp.
put it this way, a brand new honda jazz costs 12000 gbp, when it is 4 years old it is worth 10000 gbp. cars just dont depreciate in the same way as they do back in the UK.
the one bonus is that tax is 12 pounds per year, and fully comprehensive insurance for a new policy is 300 pounds..............also no speed cameras haha

yeah, to be honest the condition of the cars here is top notch but thailand doesnt have the cold weather like back home in the uk.
another perk is that modifying a car is seriously cheap here, i had a jap style back box custom made with all stainless steel pipes for the equivalent of 100 pounds

We have a place in Cebu , phillpines and cars are expensive there too
15 year old wrx from japan is 5k
And wages are £10 per week
To give you an idea how expensive that is for cars
We built a three bedroomed detached house in the city for under 3k
Brand new wrx is over 22k and even old banger cars are over 2k
We use a 96 mustang which cost over 6k and borrow wires nephews ford pickup which was over 12 k
Labour is cheap at £2 a day for anything but only the super rich can afford a motor car

@ mje_wrx, i have thought about selling stuff on ebay. but its the postage problem. there is a huge market near to my home that only sells modification parts for cars and motorcycles.
only problem is that so much stuff here is counterfeit...........they actually copy greddy blow off valves here (they cost about 40 quid) - they look the business im not sure about the durability or quality.
small things like LED lights are dirt cheap, as are xenon conversion kits (about 40 quid a set)
i had the STI fog light stickers remade the other day, took the guy about an hour to re-trace the logo and to match the font.............he charged me 2 quid total price for the stickers and the work

yeah i looked into that
importing a used one would be subject to a 308% import tax on the thai valuation because it is over 220 hp, making it about 20 grand.
you also have to have owned the car for 1 and a half years...................
one way to dodge the tax is to cut the car into 3 pieces and have it re-assembled, but thai workmanship is dodgy to say the least

Nice looking scoob you have there Must admit I didn't see many scoobs on my few visits to Thailand - perhaps me not being in the right places! I know Singapore def has quite a few as I posted up a few pics I took whilst there.
