Default Show us your oil coolers

I want to see where everyone has their oil coolers mounted..

We've got a front mount on our impreza, so we're thinking putting it behind there (if it fits)

Where has everyone else mounted theirs?

That looks spot on, how have you managed to mount it? Custom made bracket?

no just what came with the cooler itself as i understand it, fits between the upper and lower slam panel with some long bolts, which is an advantage cos you can fit thick rubber washers to stop vibrations.

mocal coolers should come with mounting kits so they are very easy to mount anywhere...I didn't bother with rubber washers; I just did the bolts up tight

I decided to mount mine where the intercooler was to fill the space. Its a 13 row mocal oil cooler with 49" lines and thermostat sandwhich plate. For spirited driving it's never gone above 90-92 deg (although I do have a fan to wire in to the rad fans at some point).

I had them powder coated the same colour as my wheels. I used a couple of plumbing hose clips to hold it to my strutt brace...............works a treat

I used 49" lines and I ran mine under the car and up by the gearbox (not the exhaust side). Simple enough really.

i think mines 19, it was £450 fitted from scoobyclinic i think, been on there two years now lol

im not convinced by the top mounted oil coolers, seems to me to be the same as the top mount, y would you want to enclose it in the hottest part of the engine bay?

Mine is sat on an angle (and I removed the rubber seal from the undertray) so the air passes directly through it without having to turn 90 deg like for the intercooler. I'm not saying it works as well as if it was mounted at the front of the car but it works perfectly well for everyday use. The temperature never goes above about 92deg on the road even with hard driving. On my last trackday the temperature rose and stayed at 100deg max so I may fit an electric fan underneath at some time.

My main reason to put it there was to fill the big space left when I went to fmic (just to improve the looks under the bonnet), it's a bit different in that position and I didn't want to stop any more air going to the radiator.

tbh i've never seen temps over 95 even when giving it absolute death on the isle of man over the mountain pass. (my gearbox wasn't so lucky though lol) so shows how hard i was giving it large lol

oil cooler will also keep the engine temp lower anyway because of the oil flowing into the core and then out to the cooler. although im no expert so that bit might be debatable lol

i just think the fact you get issues with heat on a top mount will happen with having a oil cooler in the same place.

would be interesting to see what temps you got with cooler between rad and FM, although i know your not gonna change it lol

My main reason for fitting one was due to the oil temp rising and staying at 100 deg after fitting the fmic. It would go up and stay at this temp with normal driving so it's more a safety thing tbh which it has certainly helped with. Now the normal driving temp is 85 deg which is what the thermostat is set to. I just thought about mounting it there so it wouldn't stop any more air passing through the radiator. I might wire up the electric fan sometime and I'll post up results if I do.

You are right though........not gonna move it to the front of the car

P.S. camera is coming in to work tomorrow for some "over-time" escapades with cooler and speaker install pics.
