Impreza ice track racing (w/pictures & video)
Serious fun with my Impreza on rally stud tires on a frozen lake. This time Golsfjellet in Norway.

The average lap speed is 77 km/h, corner speeds are usually 60-80 km/h while the top speed is 101 km/h. As you can see I sometimes misjudge the grip, and crash into the snow. Fortunately the low temperatures (-10 to -25) makes the snow wery light, so no harm is done to the car. Except that i filled the air box and filter with snow, which melted and became a solid ice block - had to dry it at the bathroom floor of the hotel until the next day
The rims are 5,5" compomotive in magnesium, bought second hand from a rally car - same as the tires. When used purely on ice and snow these tires last forever, but the rally guys consider them "worn out" after just 1 stage - so we can pick them up cheap. They look like this:
Driving on these tires on ice is huge fun, you don't really brake to lower the speed when going through turns . You just use the steering and brakes to "rotate"/unsettle the car before the corner, and if you need to drop speed you do it going sideways. When you have the car ligned up - full throttle.
There are numerous events like these during January-March in Norway. And come summer time, I just replace these tyres with Toyo's. Fun all season
