Default New car hopefully picking up at weekend...

Evening all, this is my first post, so be gentle

I currently own an MR2 Turbo, but we're looking at picking up the following car at the weekend...

The car is a 96' STI which is going to be used to do a few track days in, and also be my daily drive during the winter...

The car is boggo stock with only 50k miles on her, been in the country since 2000 with 1 uk owner...bargain price also...

Does the car look normal in terms of bodykit/badges etc for a car of this year? Im trying to learn the differences between models etc so am a bit in the dark atm.

The log book has 'Subaru Impreza WRX' as the make with 'EJ20115730' as the engine number...does this also sound ok?

Let me know what you think,

Grant

Dont quote me on this but think it may well be a wrx badged up as an sti. Wrx has less power hence slightly cheaper insurance.

Hmmm, is there any way of me telling for sure based on chassis/engine number.. Certainly wouldn't want to buy it thinking its an STI when its not... What power do these run standard anyway?

Also shouldn't the car have JDM sized plate recessed being an import?

Not listed on that reg ATM.

Vin GC8 is just the 2ltr saloon info, you need the Model No.

No other numbers on the log book... this car is advertised at £2600...which from my research would make it overpriced for a WRX by about ~£400....think I'll give it a miss....

Many thanks for your help though with this

I'd say in good condition that was about the £ mark TBH. The condition of cars around this age and price vary considerably so if its a minter its always worth a second look. As far as differences go early STi were not that different to the WRX's and share the 16g TD05 in some models.

I've recently just bought a bog standard wrx and can't see any difference between one pictured and mine apart from your rear fog in the bumper while mine is underneath.

Looks like a WRX to me too mate, no STi fog covers, no pink 'i' grille badge, no mid-level rear spoiler, no STi badges on the front wings, should have IC spray if its a 1996 STi too?

Thanks for the words of wisdom on this, always the same when looking at a new marquee...often so many variables to consider...one of which is often determining the exact model it is! Im a bit of an expert on my JDM MR2 Turbo's though

We're gona leave it tbh and keep looking, not desperate in the slightest...just would prefer to get an STI model.

I had my doubts from the test drive anyway, it just wasn't what I thought it would be like. It drove nicely dont get me wrong, just didn't feel very quick, was ok once rolling though.
